Got a RD account.

Speeds seem inconstant but not slow. Nothing less than 10MB/s on a single thread download.

through kodi/gaia it will play fine then without warning just stop, so i fastforward 10 secs rewind 10 secs until it starts again, so frustrating, also sometimes i miss a part and want to rewind a bit but too scared to as its a mission to get it to start again, not so on macrolan.

Strange. Well I don't do much streaming from international destinations. I most stream from google drive or emby shared server through cloudflare so won't really know.

I think thats a kodi issue tbh - if i recall correctly - they call it the ZERO buffer issue where the buffer runs out without refilling after about 15 min or so...I had that too.

You can try to apply the following AdvancedSettings.xml file to Kodi and tweak it to taste and see if that helps.

Code:
<advancedsettings>
    <cache>
        <buffermode>2</buffermode>
        <memorysize>454033408</memorysize>
        <readfactor>4</readfactor>
    </cache>
</advancedsettings>

the memorysize node is your device's available free ram divided by 3 ( in bytes ).

If you make memorysize a value of 0 (zero ) - you effectively cache ahead on disk, which works brilliantly, but it could reduce the lifespan of your disk if it is a SSD - so it's apparently not recommended.

You can read more about it here :

yeah, using advanced settings, you're forgetting if i try download the same file through chrome it's also hit and miss, but seems better tonight, but i'm sure i just jinxed it.

The advancedsettigs only applies inside Kodi - not downloading the file from your browser ....it helps with caching ahead the video you are streaming...
yes i know, apologies, I used to use advanced settings when i was using pc, i've just set it up now on the mac now, will see if it makes a difference, i was just thinking about it when you brought it up, just my laziness that got in the way, thank you for kicking my butt.
i can live with random slow downloads as i'm just doing that to test, don't actually download them.

No worries man - i know how frustrating it can be at times. Do try with that memory size set to 0 and maybe set readfactor to 10 and see...

With those settings - it "should" cache most of any movie you throw at it ahead by a big margin and hopefully make for a smooth(er) experience.

i prefer a smaller buffer as i stop it and start it when i take a break so don't want it to buffer needlessly, set it to 150MB, left it on factor 4.

ok - so let me know if it works for you or not. If it makes not real difference - just try a value of 0 for the sake of testing and see if it has any impact. Oh, and you might know this already, but remember to restart kodi after each change so it can read in the new values.

Quick one. Do you stream GD via an Android Box(Xiaomi MiBox)? Would it be possible?

i've upped it to 250mb/factor 10. lets see if i can get through one episode without stopping.

damn i hate macs, it looks like the file i created in textedit is having no affect, when i look at it in file manager in kodi it doesn't look right, just garbage, so i'll make a file on the pc tomorrow and bring it in.

These results show that your latency to the UK is 140ms with or without VPN, which is not bad.

Why would that IP be any more of an "accurate" test than the rest? The problem manifests when traffic leaves London.
You are right about this, we would need several tests to multiple IP addresses to isolate the issue.
