Afrihost ? seriously... 2 months roll over

Afrihost (Gian) admitted they ****ed up the capping in another thread and that everything should be hard capped now. (Remember the whole cancellation thread the other day?)

So I reckon it was Afrihost's responsibility and thus they need to take action. According to the TOS they should've hard capped him. They didn't. The end-user shouldn't have to watch his bandwidth like a hawk, otherwise I'll just go (which I have) to a provider who can do the job properly...

Just out of interest really, how did that help you? You'll now pay a lot more to get the job done properly, which simply means you still have the same usage and would still have to pay for it like you would with Afrihost, except almost double the price.

Unless you plan on being without internet once you are hardcapped, it doesn't sound like a great plan to move to another ISP because of this.

In any case they've now said that all accounts would be completely hard capped so we shouldn't have this problem.

I agree. What a strange reason to change to a provider which is twice as expensive.

But hey, to each his own.

I really don't need that much to begin with and it made sense getting "more" for the same amount of money (even less) than I was paying. But I did it as a trial to see what would happen after they got the entire ADSL community of 250000 users+ to knock on their door asking for bandwidth...

I doubt the entire community is knocking on their door dude, most folk just stick with mweb or whatever they have been using and will never even hear about afrihost.

While the hardcapping has been an issue i have seen no one bitching about how cheap they are, all i see is people trying to get 15-20gb off a 10gb account and expect not to get charged as usual.

To my thinking, if an ISP fails to cap you they are effectively issuing you with credit and issuance of such credit should be subject to the new Credit Act. Did they follow the correct procedure when giving you the credit?

I don't think they (Afrihost) are within their rights to now charge a customer for a screw-up on their part. In fact the same reasoning should apply to any telecomms services provided by anybody in SA. If they don't cap you, they have no right to claim from you.

Should i take it to court ? :P

i love making these threads.. seeing the fanboys throw tantrums ! imagine how telkom could coin it if they implemented that sort of system ! actually i think i should pitch them the idea!

Well I'm also pissed off with them - they charged me for an account I've cancelled twice. I don't think I'm going to be with them much longer.

Would be nice if their client zone updated in real time. I was running some downloads yesterday to finish my cap, kept on checking to see if i had reached it, but the ticker was not moving, even after refreshing the page and logging in again. But yet I get held liable if I do end up going over my cap?

apparently they all are without email and cellphones, odd because i regularly got reminders via email and smses. defintily got them at 50%, 70% and 90%...

I haven't received an SMS from them - I do receive emails.

Dude i do not even use afrihost but i do think they are really good for what they have done.

You should just cancel your accounts and stop using them i think.

I concur. Clearly, they are not for everyone. It remains to be seen, with the increase in legitimate complaints about their service levels, what will become of them.

I have had no issues at all.
And I am a big fan of the sms usage updates.

I just sent a request to cancel my second account - not going to go through this each month.

I'd prefer to pay a little extra - and have confidence in the service I'll be getting.

How or why do you guys receive sms updates? Is it a setting in clientzone? My details are logged there, but have not received a sms during September or October? I did receive a warning via e-mail that I have used 57% of my allocated bandwidth , but nothing after that, although several hundred MB's were used after that warning was received?
