Afrihost ? seriously... 2 months roll over

lol @ you guys - especially killadoob. So you're saying we should just be so grateful to afrihost that it's only R29/gb that we forget about everything else hmmmm... such as service etc? You can't be serious....just because they're cheaper they're perfect now?

They are giving us R29/gb just because they have such big hearts? Because they just feel like giving us cheap bandwidth because they like us so much? I think not....nowhere on their website does it say "we're cheap so we take no responsibility for anything"

Common now.... they offer a service for a certain price and we as customers accept that price and a certain level of service which we are entitled to no matter how low the price. Being cheaper does not give an excuse to be sloppy.

Just btw, I'm with Afrihost and their service has been excellent i must say!! I'm not at all moaning at them, just these guys who have this whole "shut up and be grateful" attitude.... pffft....

How come these reminders did not help?

First month I also got the reminders, also told me I was 100% on my cap. But the next month almost 1 gb dissappeared because of "overusage" on the previous month. I have a 384k line. So you can imagine... anyway. It seems you dont want to understand and other than not helping, is fighting with the people who has this issue (which has been reported by many others) citing that we should just shut up and live with it because it's cheap bandwidth

Goes to show you once a provider does give us something for cheaper, people are quick not to moan about poor service or systems in place just because they're getting something for cheap.

Aikona...

I agree, the clientzone usage graph not updating in realtime is a pain. I somehow went 200mb over my initial limit (got 1GB prorata) and it was deducted from this month's usage, just fair I think. Will see how this month goes. Sofar I am semi happy. The b/w is cheap, not the fastest on the block and it would be AWESOME if it was semi shaped, ie no shaping after hours.

I do get linespeed every now and then but not nearly as often as I do with my axxess account.

ya i find it weird how people attach service to price ?

but oh well

You not get smss?

That's the whole point, no sms's because not even Afrihost or their client zone knew that I was over my cap. They are a IS reseller, so their system logs into IS's to check on our usage, but not that regularly, which is why you can go over your cap before their system 'realizes' and caps you. This is the way I understand it anyways, I'm open to correction.

This system is fine for general surfing, because you would hardly use any cap until the system refreshes. But if you are nailing your 4mb line to try finish your cap on the last day of the month, you could very easily go a few gigs over your cap. Hence this thread being started.

Their system is flawed, either they need to fix it, or stop carrying over the overusage.

I just sent a request to cancel my second account - not going to go through this each month.

I'd prefer to pay a little extra - and have confidence in the service I'll be getting.

I agree. If Afrihost don't convince me very soon that their billing system is accurate and reliable, I think I'll also call it a day. I've had enough aggro with Vodacom "losing" my bundled peak time minutes for the last two years, and telling me their billing is correct because "the system says so".

I'd also rather pay a bit more and trust the service provider.

You will be glad to know (afrihost fan boys mainly) that they gave me my 2 gigs of data to use :P

i was over by 5 gigs apparently !

well glad they acting like a proper ISP, there could be hope here :) took a day or two, but atleast it got sorted.

Til next month boys :P ya i also overused like 100 megs on my 1 gig acc with them that carried forward, but that doesnt really bother me !

peace

You are wrong on all counts, again.

But, as I advised above, if you don't like the service, then don't use it.

I was merely trying to ascertain whether this was a VALID complaint or just the usual nonsense to which we have been subjected of late in this regard.

It turned out to be valid. No thanks to your 'help' in clarifying the matter.

For the record, if the service is poor, it needs to be complained about, and fixed.

Whilst I might wish that some people shut up when they talk nonsense I certainly never advocated the idea of shutting up simply because something is cheap. Quite where you got that idea I will never know.

Aikona indeed.

Glad that you came right :) You were 5GB over on a 5GB account or how?

Hey Guys

I also think there is an issue, I run a proxy on my line which monitors daily usage on my account and there is a significant difference between my recorded usage and the amount deducted on my client zone. Particularly over the month end days

Does Afrihost have a view on this? It would be good if they commented and put our minds at rest as to what really happens!!

See the other afrihost thread - concern was raised with Afrihost, some clients have had their accounts rectified and, on further enquiry this was the response I received:

[We apologize for the inconvenience caused.

There was something "broken" on the system; which caused the stats not to reflect as they should, over the weekend.
Fortunately our Administrators have picked this up & rebuilding the data; your data will be allocated correctly once the work is completed.

Thank you for your patience thus far. /QUOTE]

The fool and his money soon parted :P

Maybe. But getting parted from my Gigs really bites!:D

As I said, it's not about the little discrepancy (at least on my account it was) this time round, but I don't like the idea that it's happening. So this time Afrihost 'fessed up, after the uproar on the forum(?). Now I'm wondering how honest the reply was to the ticket I logged, which said it's a carryover deduction (while the dashboard told me I was well clear when I switched off on the early evening of the 31st).

Per my earlier post, Vodacom has put me in a different frame of mind about service provider, pricing and value add.

i was 5 gigs over on a 2 gig account .. but was from 2 months back.

glad they realised it was a problem, ill give them more of a try now. See how it goes, if its good i can recommend them!

Cool, thanks for clearing that up :)

Hey All

No need to stress. If you guys are having a problem, just mail me on [email protected] and I will sort it out as I did for 4cer.

If we are in the wrong, we always try sort it out! And I would say most people are usually happy with the outcome.

Anyways. Cheers :)

Common now....

Aaaarghhh!! My ultimate pet hate when it comes to bastardising the English language!

The words you are after are "come on", not common! I am seeing this more and more often.

Read what you have said.... what is "common now"?

Common =

1. occurring, found, or done, often; not rare.
2. without special qualities or position, ordinary
3. showing a lack of refinement
4. shared by two or more people or things

Are you trying to say "ordinary now"?
