Afrihost ? seriously... 2 months roll over

Well they do resell the underusage, so why not subtract overusage, which they clearly allowed as they were lax in capping in time, from the underusage pool and then sell resell the difference. It's like anything in South Africa, a money making scam.

No they are selling it so cheap because of under usage, so in my opinion if you want go back to paying 50 bucks a gb and stop moaning. You are paying 29 per gb so if you buy one gb use one gb and not 10 expecting them to cover the loss.

Also stop expecting to rape the 10gb account and get away with it. As usual SA's expect everything for free.

So honesty on his part doesn't come into the equation ? Rather that let the service provider know that his still able to use his service after his allocated usage has been used up, he continues to use more than double his allocation and now feels wronged ?

Where did honesty go??? It is not your right to rip off someone because they did not see it fit to treat you like a child....

Youre a bunch of dishonest thieves. No better than the common criminal

/soapbox

I never said it was necessarily right, I'm just saying its the company's responsibility to cap him. I don't even have an Afrihost account so don't include me in the "bunch of dishonest thieves". Nobody would be defending the company if it was Telkom.

Its very interressting. Cause I agree 4cer. You have signed up for example now.

1GB CAPPED account. You didn't signup for a 1GB account which can actually be 5GB and then paying the extra.

Anyways. If you have used it I suppose you must pay it. But afrihost isn't completely innocent. :)

Don't flame me cause I don't have a account either.

learned what ? this is the account i didnt use last month, and complained about ? still capped this month ! what lesson must i learn ?

and i doubt they sell below cost.. how would they make any money then.

yup ive said this 10 times before.. if it was Telkom everyone would agree.. but im messing with the Ub3r l33t nerds cheap BW !

Yet you are among the people who demand that caps go away.

I actually like the idea if something important comes up at the bitter end of the month, a huge email or something. I can still get it and Afrihost will only deduct the bandwidth from my cap for the next month.
Fo sho don’t sit on a news server and rape it just to complain when you are capped the next month.

I think in a way this is actually a good thing from Afrihost if you look at it from that side.

Monitor your usage, we all know how to do it.

The capping really seems to be a problem. I have enjoyed my experience with Afrihost thus far and are very happy. I however feel uneasy with this capping issue.

I am savvy enough to check my bandwidth availability and to calculate any downloads I might do, but I have 5 pc's and a netbook that are all being utilized and the rest of my family does not have clue about bits and bytes, etc.

I have read a previous post where it was explained how the usage figures come from somewhere else and there are several hours of delay involved and figures are not always accurate when you check your account.

I can't expect my family to count every MB and I don't think Afrihost can expect that either. It is their responsibility to cap my account once I have reached my limit. I can add that Telkom have never let me exceed my limit with more than 100MB, but then neither has Afrihost to be honest.

Can it be that Telkom update their info in shorter bursts? A lot of info can be downloaded/uploaded on a 4Mbps line in a couple of hours if the conditions are right.

It does not matter that the current price is R29/GB. I would expect a professional service even if it was almost free. It was their choice to offer this service at that price. I accepted it. I also accepted that I will only receive 1 GB/R29.00, not more, therefore I can expect to be stopped once I reach that limit.

Afrihost please sort this out. I am a fan of yours and as such do not like the negative comments that are viewed regarding this, as it is really worrisome.

Oh, yes....

Well done to the Blue Bulls!!!:p
Commiserations to the Cheata team and supporters, what an effort!!!;)

Of course i want caps to go away but afrihost have offered bandwidth at 29/gb considering pricing that is very good.

When you sign up for an a 10gb account i am almost 100% positive you know you only have 10gb right?

While they are wrong for not capping at 10gb surely 29/gb would mean people would have decency and not try extract more than they paid for but just as companies have this rape SA's it makes us want to rape them :D.

Romark is does not take a degree in rocket science to check how much bandwidth you have used.

Yeah, bright spark, but it is for kids that are young, or for people that are past their pension date and not used to working with pc's or just any other user that knows not much about pc's, but they can skype and see their loved ones overseas via the webcam or just love to download all that cute YouTube clips.

It does take a password to check your bandwith, mayby I don't want somebody else to have access to my account details, even if it is my wife, kids, etc?

Well sounds to me like 29/gb is not for you, find another company that will cap you but charge you double.

Sounds like you would prefer that.

killa - i would agree with you only if Afrihost are positioning themselves as a provider that is cheap and therefore you take your chances with them. as far as i am aware that is not their offering. therefore as a consumer, a person is entitled to get what they paid for. if we are to expect anything less for what we have paid for we are doing ourselves, the consumers, no favours.

if they decide to sell a product and promote it with having certain features. then they are obliged to deliver those features. if they wish to promote themselves as a professional company then they should expect their consumers to demand what they paid for.

I just want to add that I absolutely agree with your statement, but what if you only have a GB or 2 account. Surely you can understand that is then very unsettling if you loose, say 300MB - 500MB on a GB account, or even worse, everything is gulped up in the new month due to incorrect cap and don't have internet access in the month? Not everybody can afford to then buy additional bandwidth, even at this great price.

Yup i hear what you guys are saying but remember whatever gb account you had before it was double the price so you are saving money or am i missing something about not saving money?

Is there a reason they cannot cap the accounts though?

Maybe I am missing something here...

The Op signed up for a ONE gig account each month, did many times more than ONE gig in the 1st month and now said account will be capped until the overused gigs are paid for? For example, if the usage was 3GB, then another three months? So the OP will have got 4GB data and paid for 4GB data. Am i not getting it?

i am not saying the OP is not to blame. But it is also unreasonable from the ISP side that someone can do 3GB over their cap when the account is supposed to be hardcapped.

I was not passing judgement, just trying to establish the facts.

Now that I have, I can pass judgment :)

I just hope that because of this thread, the people who do not know that the accounts are NOT hardcapped, will bear that in mind in future.

Otherwise, there are plenty of other, way more expensive offerings out there, which do hard cap, if that is a necessity.

I personally prefer the softcap. I know how to monitor my bandwidth - the emails and smss I receive when I go over 50% of my allocated usage also clearly help.

the thing is though even Gian himself has admitted the accounts are not supposed to be soft capped
