Morning all

Looks like we've lost a small piece of our South IPC. This may cause clients in the region to experience slow throughput and high latency.

We also need to redirect some traffic while we work on the IPC with Telkom. Sorry for the inconvenience. I'll post updates as I get them from our team working on this.

You know what is really good at retrieving lost things:
A dog

And if there was IPC in PE it would only be the Cape Townians to worry about
:p

Okie dokie, will try Unotelly. You recommend them rather then Elephant or Unlocator?

Currently using UnoTelly DNS on 4Mb uncapped. Shaping degrades Netflix quite dramatically. Afriman put me in touch with Client Support (btw, thanks for that!), who are investigating. Can confirm that the "client care" account they have me using to test with is absolutely flying on Netflix.

Thanks for this feedback. Using Unlocator I have the exact same experience. Switching to my FNB Capped account everything is back to normal.

Will still test Unotelly tonight, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that we are just being shaped stukkend.

People have mixed results. It seems that unotelly is the best all rounder though.

Dear AfriMan (Or anyone else who can answer),

I recently upgraded my line from a 1mb to 2mb uncapped with telekom bundle.

My line is still syncing at 1mb. How can I get it to sync at 2mb?

Haha, this reminds me - I think we need to add AfriDog to the new years resolution list. Maybe a pack of AfriDogs can lay the fibre to that shiny IPC you keep requesting ;)

The line upgrades are usually automated, on our end - it can take up to 48 hours for the sync to change.
If your line is with us though, drop me a PM and I'll see if I can force a higher sync on my end.

Best would be to test it for yourself seeing as people do get mixed results. I have that package and it works for me.

PM Afriman or AfriGuy (whoever is active atm) and ask them to up your sync rate to 2Mbps. You can also try live support, just ask them the same.

Hi Afriman,

Is there still a problem with Afrihost ?

Cannot connect at all since this morning - rebooted the router after long periods of disconnection, still nothing

Also got the SMS from Afrihost about problem in my area, CT - Century City

Telkom line works fine

shall do

a pack of Afridogs would be awesome because then we could get fibre all over the show. I have it on good authority that MTN have fibre in PE

We're seeing reduced capacity on the South region, which is affecting CPT and surrounds :(

UPDATE 21 January 2014 10:25 Telkom engineers are on-site at the MTN Data Centre investigating the South Region IPC hardware. We are awaiting further updates and an ETA for resolution. We will continue to optimise traffic on the network for the best possible experience for affected clients under the circumstances.

We’re currently experiencing a reduction in IPC capacity affecting the Southern Region (Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas). Our network engineers are on site and working on the issue to resolve this as quickly as possible. Affected clients could experience reduced throughput and higher latency than normal on the DSL connection. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and hope to normalise services as quickly as possible

Speaking of IPC, any word on when the additional capacity in the north is coming online?

None yet :( We're really hoping it arrives soon though. The minute we hear any info around this we'll have it posted up here.

From experience, an AfriDog would in fact dig up the fibre and chew through it.

Not so, when I tested an hour ago or so the connection was dead completely. (No throughput even to local sites.)

The reduced capacity was the cause for this though, the contention got too high and we saw a latency spike. This has since been sorted out though, could you reboot and try again please?
