Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

Want to move to Afrihost, but a bit sketchy now. Some of my colleagues have also been complaining about speed.

I think a lot of guys will back me up if I say hold off on this. Give it a month or so and see what happens. AfriHost are a great company to deal with and in the past I would have had zero qualms recommending them. But things have gone downhill fast on the uncapped accounts. The other guys will be able to give you more thoughts on the business and capped accounts. Can't speak for those.

As I mentioned, we are noting some improvements so things are set to improve going forward.

I feel sorry for the pre-Mweb abuser migration users of AfriHost. I hope they upgrade or kick off the abusers soon.
My experience has been worse with Afrihost then with MWEB, that's when you know it's sad!..

Afriman, I know it's not easy to just get more IPC, but that's what you have to do. If you're getting more customers that means more usage and more usage means you have to Upgrade your Capacity. Having barely 2 unshaped days in 3 weeks is ridiculous
Shaping on a weekend is just wrong.

Hi AfriGuy,

I just wanted to ask, why am I being shaped for 15gb so far? My projected usage is 60gb.. On a 4mb uncapped that is nothing! I moved from MWEB because I wanted a better service.. I never got shaped on MWEB 4mbps doing 120gb a month. I'm really not happy, first week and I'm already considering canceling....
I also canceled my Mweb acc. to come to Afrihost, but now I am not so sure. Did 423gig with mweb last month no throteling.4MB acc.

You should be on business with that usage

Anyway, business is the same price as MWEB's normal product is... and you would be guaranteed unshaped

It's been far too long. This shaping is getting ridiculous

I won't continue to support an ISP that delivers a service like this.

Definitely not shaping that does that :/ PM Afriman and he will sort you out. Also, don't forget about this little button:

Try it and see if it makes a difference. It can be found in the new clientzone, your tel number...

Yeah the tweak my line function doesn't work at all for me, just gives an error. Tried contacting Afrihost about it and was told that the clientzone is in beta so not everything works.

My browsing is really slow and http downloads are around 15kb/s right now. I thought real-time speed is always at 100%?

Okay, could you do a tracert to google.co.za please

tracert google.co.za

and post the results here.

If we had to unshape our Home Uncapped accounts the contention for P2P and other resource intensive protocols would simply bring the network to it's knees.

So legitimate http downloads are resource intensive?

I doubt a 2GB download of SPSS would cripple your network.

The point I was trying to make is; all signs are pointing "right" but you're here - as a paid representative of Afrihost - telling us they point to "wrong" without a stitch of evidence to back it up? Or at least an alternative explanation?

These business accounts are starting to look more and more like home uncapped accounts. I cannot get more than 100kb/s out of my line on HTTP and P2P downloads. And the connection is going up and down more than a Hillbrow hooker! I really need to have this sorted. My patience with you guys are running extremely thin!

I am smelling some bs from AfriHost about shaping on the business uncapped accounts. Funny that my line started downloading at full speed after 12am this morning but was slow as **** before 12..

I also cannot seem to get a constant ping. There is huge fluctuations all the time. From 17ms - 100ms - 19ms - 72ms!

Sorry, but this is really starting to sound a bit trite. Nobody can reasonably expect you to wholly unshape home uncapped accounts on all protocols 24/7 - not for what we're paying. However I maintain that, if you need to throttle some people to less than a 5th of their line speed on HTTP downloads FOR WHATEVER REASON, you're running out of capacity in one form or another. It's indefensible.
