Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt2)

I am not on an shaped account -- its for business use so I bought large chunks of Gbs. However I am finding that the performance is very slow at times. Its patchy, sometime good and sometimes terrible -- its not the line, have checked that already. I wonder just how congested/oversold the bandwidth is.

@afriguy, why the need for shaping on a sunday? No Offence but that's taking the piss mate

Afriman, I was just spammed on port 25 on my network. My Private SMTP server got 48000 random messages in the space of 3 minutes. I have no idea how?

I need to check why it is allowing unauthorised access

This is concerning indeed, there could be a few options to look at to have this sorted out.
Some bots are designed to sniff out open ports :(

If you're still seeing this attack please PM me.

To he honest, I am not going to. Read this thread. I am not the only oje with this specific problem. Doubt anyhing on my side is unique....

Please answer our questions wrt the reasons for the network strain.

Is it your users, outside the network or design/capacity related. If any of the latter two, when can we expect visible action?

Or is it something else?

Please PM either one of us, we'd like to eliminate as much as possible to have this sorted out for you.

The lack of feedback form the "2013 ISP of the year" is deafening.

4 weeks of shaping now from the "Best ISP"?

Remember last year? They got the award and bam. Internet goes shyte. I get a sense of deja-vu.

I'm really sorry about the lack of feedback over this weekend/ today. We're doing our best to go through everything on our end. Please know that we're doing everything in our power to have this put back to level awesome.

Then at least update your website notification from "Network Fully Operational" so that one does imagine that this is normal somehow. Please.

We still had email and live chat options available though :( I've just replied to your last post request some further info on this.

It literally took minutes to open a page yesterday so email options were not an option. You should have everything in your pm's.

I spoke to whoever the afrihost representative on twitter is and they apparently escelated the matter. Haven't heard anything more. Besides them this morning resetting my line and "stabilising" it again... that's all they seem to do and it hasn't solved the problem yet so why would it now... anyways...

This was my reply to the email I got after I logged the ticket online:

Let me just say AGAIN, this is on a 10mbps line bundle!

The network page is listed an normal as this isn't affecting everyone - clients are affected by this, but it isn't a widespread issue over our network :(

I completely understand, it's not ideal at all :( We're doing everything we can to have this sorted out.

I think a lot of us would be more than happy if you actually told us what you doing to fix this? I don't mind waiting but i want to hear / see some improvement.

I'd love to tell you, I'm not aware of the technical details though :( Our team is constantly looking at ways to have a marked improvement on our network though.

I promise you, we'll fix this soon!

I am sorry to say. But what is AfriHost's soon? I have been having issues since the 19th of September. And do not tell me it is my line only. I have been on here since the 19th of September and that is the same tune we have been force fed for almost a month? The home uncapped users are paying you full price for a quarter of the service. I think these okes deserve a time line..

I can't provide you with timelines I'm afraid.
I've mentioned already - it's not just your line, but it is making the shaping worse due to higher latency on your end. Again, our team are working with you and Telkom to have this sorted out.

Yeah, Telkom was at my house on Saturday. Told me it is not them, it is you guys. You say no it is them??

And you do not have to provide me with a timeline. These guys that are paying you a full price is asking for some estimates. I am paying you even more to try and avoid this atrocious shaping crap that is going on..

Please PM me as soon as you notice a slow down on your end - you shouldn't be experiencing this :( Please include a traceroute too - it'll help us identify where the slow speeds/ increased latency is being introduced.

The tests and data from us indicate an issue on the line that needs to be investigated. I'll escalate this for you.

mine's been awful. only been with afrihost for two weeks and have not been able to watch youtube without buffering on my uncapped 10Mb account. free capped account works fine!
