FFS They (Afrihost) do not shape users individually like Mweb, they shape the network based on total load with prioritising certain services. Is that so hard to fathom?

Afrihost always came up with amicable solutions for everyone so I cannot see why there should be any fear that this is a long term problem.

To make this possible, we will shape non-Realtime services during our busiest times. Non-real time services will be shaped on a sliding scale, with our higher bandwidth users getting shaped more than lower bandwidth users, only on these services (NEVER on real time services). This will ensure that our network is not congested and that all of our clients' experience is not negatively affected.

so if afriman going to answer my question as to how long the life cycle of historical data patterns is used to calculate shaping

Thanks for standing up for us here, we really do appreciate it! When we introduced our new shaping (along with the move over to MTN) it was a plan that was concrete. It isn't going anyway, and as you say above - we won't turn around today, tomorrow or ever and start throttling/ shape clients based on individual usage.

it is the only thing that makes sense, is the leaderboards live or when will they update so we can see how miserable our service has been

The leaderboard is constantly being updated, so that's a true reflection of what's being used at the moment.

Guys please, the way we shape has been covered so many times in this thread.
We shape based on overall network load. If the network is really quiet hardly any clients will be shaped (if any)

When it's busier, we shape a bit more.

I can promise you, we do not shape clients based on their individual usage. This simply does not exist on our network.

Average speed of about 20KB/s on 10mbps uncapped. (says im shaped to 6.25% of speed....)

Correct, there's a difference between shaping and throttling - and all too many are buying Afrihost's claim that they don't throttle, when that claim couldn't be further from the truth.

Still amazed how these guys put up with 24/7 buffering I dont know, how else do they max out the connection 24/7 as with streaming there are pauses not true

Agreed, you cannot shape at 10 or 20% line speed, its a direct limitation, hence the term throttle, they just do it per protocol and not per account

How so?
Shaping will only affect P2P and Download - not realtime. This is exactly why we have shaping on our network, to enable realtime services to be untouched.
This has been mentioned numerous times by both AfriMan and myself.

When the network isn't under load, we'll unshape as much as possible.

Our network has been seeing higher demand at the moment - meaning that we've had to shape a bit more than we'd like to see. This only goes for your P2P and Downloads and should ease off somewhat after hours.

Your AUP states the contrary, the formal agreed to document, I expected this shaping as this is what I agreed to, so the AUP is not accurate, this makes me question the rest of it like no throttling

I think we need some pretty hard facts on how/ when we throttle though - otherwise these are completely unsubstantiated.
We do not throttle, it's as simple as that. If we did, measures on our network would have to look at individual usage - we don't.

If we did throttle, after reaching xGB we'd slow your entire connection down. We don't.

even the above statetement confuses it self, some client may be shaped when the network is quiet, wtf, yet you say no user is individually shaped

Maybe you're getting confused.
I'm not contradicted our AUP (or visa versa) at all.

We mention up-front that the accounts are subjected to shaping. If the network is busy, we'll shape your non-realtime services. I'm not really sure where this is going? What's contradicting what?

Shaping will only affect P2P and Download - not realtime.

Even if it were true that you only throttled certain 'types' of data transfers, then it's still throttling. However, you throttle everything. We know that Afrihost marketing REALLY wants everyone to think otherwise, but please, it's getting tiring to hear the same lie repeated over and over again.
