I cant take it anymore, the shaping is just unacceptable..How does mweb's premium compare, anyone have an idea of average use on a 4mb line before throttling takes place?

On 4Meg premium you can use 400gigs before being throttled.

Same thing, Shaping Policy: 18.8% Download/ 6.25% P2P, so disappointed
Are you saying that this is your capped account?
I hope not because I'm at the point of changing to Capped.

Does Afrihost block NNTP traffic? Surely not, since they have their own news server. And yet, when I connect to that, and my account with XS Usenet, I get 0-1kB/s download speeds.

:confused:Hi, I don't know what's happened but my p2p is flying at +-110 kB/s at the moment. Probably fast asleep at the brakes. Hope it stays like this for the rest of the day.

:mad:Too good to last now running at 12 kB/s.

Hi Afriman

I would like to refer to an article that was published on the 11 March 2014 and would like to know when this will come into effect, as it stands the p2p speeds are extremely bad.

The article goes like like this....

Afrihost added that their uncapped DSL clients will also have extra capacity sent their way, which the ISP said “will mean that the best uncapped experience in the market will get even better”.

“A planned 21% upgrade on Afrihost’s network capacity, with capacity already added in the Northern region and more expected in the Southern and Eastern regions, will mean uncapped clients can expect less shaping on their non-real-time protocols,” Afrihost said.

Morning welcome back.

Yes you have missed something important.

AH is dying on all fronts.
Definition of "All fronts"
Capped accounts, Home uncapped, Business uncapped, Hosting and support.

Who can I speak to in Afrihost to get my account cancelled today. I have currently paid for a product which I have not really been able to use during the day the whole of this month. I have determined it is not my line speed, and tickets have basically disappeared into thin air at Afrihost, and no trace of some of my emails can be found. And I am tired of trying to explain to 6 different people what the actual issue is, and after a few hours only each of them reallize something is wrong and nothing is being done.

No, uncapped, such a waste of money every month, Afrihost have lost my support forever with their absolute lack of support for their uncapped users

We don't block NNTP traffic, however it may be shaped :(

I really wish I could have a date posted up, I'm waiting for a timeline on the additional capacity.

Sorry to hear you're leaving us :( I fully understand that you're frustrated with the shaping though.
Maybe you can pause your account instead?

If not, all of our cancellations are done via the ClientZone.

At the moment it is.

4Mbps capped account: Eastern Cape

AH:

WA:

This is a WA vs AH free 1GB account comparison and AH is losing badly.

I know we are in the uncapped thread, but if your capped unshaped, unthrottled account performs so poorly it does indicate huge problems and as such explain why real time protocols are struggling and even Business accounts users are complaining.

I suppose this will mean that even with Turbocharge activated, we will still won't get full line speed on Http or P2P downloads.

I was definitely not getting full line speed on my capped account when I tried it a bit earlier?
I think on average I probably got a bit less than 50% of my line speed.

Yeah we're being milked by Afrihost at the moment, its really sad, what is the process to move over to WA if your line is bundled with AH?

I'm not bundled with AH and only signed up for the WA free 1 +1 GB account to compare it with my AH capped account.
Since yesterday my AH capped account is really bad.

Since my uncapped account is just a browsing account due to AH shaping, I rely on my capped account to do urgent downloads.
Now I can't even use that effectively.
I only got the WA account to prove that there is nothing wrong with my line and ignore the countless but useless requests for trace routes and Speed tests.

In my opinion it is currently only used for misleading users and to waste some more time.
in my case, I wasn't even answered after it was requested yesterday that I should send details via PM so that the account can be investigated.

"Investigate" and "soon" being the two words you can't trust atm when used by AH.
So I have proved my line is capable to run full speed on WA, but not AH.
Not sure if I'm unique in that scenario.

The shaping is not the issue on my account currently, but no one on afrihost really can acknowledge that a different problem exists.
