Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback (Pt3)

It is difficult to faultfind as we do not know what IP etc the console connects to. In you opinion, does Telkom have some issues in the South. It is just strange that other ISP's are also experiencing issues for the past month. Also this started when Telkom did some work on their Exchanges. A friend in PE and me in the Garden Route had the issues start the same time (after the Exchange work).

It's possible that it may relate to Telkom, but highly unlikely. If multiple ISPs experience the same issue it could have something to do with international peering on the network that hosts the server (most SA ISPs peer with the same services like Level3, for example) or it could be an issue with the host limiting traffic or having high latency which may be OK for their local gamers but horrible for overseas users.

Hey guys

We've officially got another legend on our team, introducing AfriGenie!
Say howzit, be nice, be gentle (don't want to scare him off just yet ;)) and ask away.

He'll be helping AfriMan and myself around these parts.
He's been in the Afrihost family for ages, so he definitely knows his stuff, great to have him on board with us!

At the moment my connection is so slow. Pages take forever to load and I cannot even download the afrihost network tester tool. Seriously annoyed at the moment. This is not internet joy!
Edit: welcome AfriGenie. If we rub your lamp, will the internet work again?

pissed of with Afrihost cant do jack with them as active isp ... had to logon to another ISP to be able to do anything tonight.

So i was wondering
If my line is constantly on 25 -50 % shaping then can i apply 25-50% shaping to my bill each month
What they are getting away with is charging a 100% fee and only delivering a portion of the contracted work.

Evening guys

Sorry I can't get to everyone's posts.
Looks like we're seeing intermittent DNS/ connectivity issues on our end. We're investigating.

The connectivity issues should be resolved, sorry about that :(
We'll continue to monitor for any further anomalies.

Hi Afriman. I have a capped account on a 20Mbps line whenever I do a speedtest it is throttled to between 3-5Mbps now to my understanding uncapped is advertised as unshaped.

Only Business Uncapped and capped accounts are unshaped.

Uncapped products are semi-shaped, but shaping only applied to non realtime services like torrents or NZB's. Speedtest would qualify as a realtime service and should reflect better speeds.

Can you run our Network Test App and post the speedtest result so I can have a closer look?

Yea my YouTube buffers on hd and speedtest goes at 5. When I get home later from varsity ill post with the network test app

That should definitely not be occurring even on an Uncapped account, the Network Test results will definitely assist us with narrowing down the cause, and taking steps to correct it.

adam_g, None of those results really appear to be too far off of what we want to see.

Is your Youtube and other real-time services still as degraded as what it was last night?

adam_g,

Could you quickly send me a PM with your ADSL username please? I want to try see if I can narrow down if the issue is related to our network or if its more local.
