Bang on 10pm NNTP increases to 100%.

Downloaded a file from MS (as well as a local file from mirror.ac.za) - both come in at 50% (200Kbps)

lucky you, I am still plotting along at 8Kb/s

Like I posted earlier, it seems QoS is applied to http flows once they hit a certain size. (I'm guessing around 5MB based on my speedtest observations). So downloading a 700MB iso IS going to be affected. What line do you have?
It also appears that ALL your high-traffic flows go into the same QoS bucket - so your total speed for ALL down-rated transfers will be x kbps (512 on my line) in total.

Well then it makes sense. Your non-realtime stuff is being throttled to 50kb/s (1/20 account speed). My nonrealtime stuff slowed to 500 (1/20 account speed). So it seems consistent...

Because I am special I have logged two requests to downgrade my line to 1mb. Apparently my billing reflects this, but for now my line still syncs at 10mb.

Get a NewsDemon account then. I'm on Mweb and NewsDemon works amazingly well - over 400KB/s usually any time of day. I'm curious as to how Afrihost performs with it.

Last time I saw that it is in the Netherlands. and I was getting 15kb/s. The provider is not the problem. BTW my capped runs full speed.
