Authentication isn't a single process, it's involves Telkom, MTN and us. Telkom recieves your request first, and based on your username (realm) you are assigned an IP address from a specific range, which allows you to get onto the network. The request is then sent to MTN's radius and from there to our radius.
It seems like Telkom initiating string is missing packets, which is why authentication is accepted but no session is opened and there was no throughput. We've implemented a workaround to address this, but ultimately we need to find out why this is happening. We've sent this onto to Telkom management.
Just very strange that Telkom's proxies are only causing problems with Afrihost. This is not the first, nor the second time that Telkom causes problems for only Afrihost authentication.
Not MWEB, not IS, not <enter any other isp in here>
Very very strange

I could not play online games all weekend on my Afrihost due to Extreme ping/packet loss.
Worst of all is one of my mates comes over, pops in his mweb uncapped and there were no issues...
I still believe Afrihost is moving in the right direction, but these constant problems are making it hard![]()
Has anyone else noticed that the carrier is not MTN after the authentication problem.

Our team is looking into this. We're checking if you're using an IP range that Telkom may not recognise correctly. As soon as I have some info, will let you![]()

I'm a former Mweb user and if I remember correctly your account is synced to your home telephone line so how exactly did he use his account at your house?
Also i game with a friend on mweb and mweb has been terrible all weekend too.
You can just login to your account and change the authorised landline number.
I am thinking shaping to 25% include HTTP downloads, pulling ubuntu 12.10 now and only getting 250kb/s
