Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Am I missing something? My line is working at full speeds. I'm on the 10mb home uncapped. It's been at it's full speed awesomeness since the night before...at this pace, a Ferrari cannot even keep up...:D

Quick update from my side.

Spent about 30 minutes with their critical care team, trying to figure out what's going on.

Consistently, my international speeds were dismal, even though ping times were quite standard. We tested capped accounts and Afrihost even tested SAIX based accounts (even though they are on MTN) and the problem was consistently there.

They determined that it is possibly a routing issue and have logged a call with Telkom. Here's hoping that this sorts out my problem :)

It's that time of the month again when Afrihost starts treating their uncapped customers like ****. No shaping applied my side and can't reach more than half my line speed. Tried a Turbocharge during the day yesterday with the same story. Tried using one of my capped accounts from Afrihost now and instantly got my full line speed.

What's going on guys?

You tested the Capped account this morning? Did you try it last night? Did you also by any chance run a traceroute?
As you said, you weren't being shaped,so it may have been your line or your exchange.

Tiny, please would you type this:

tracert bbc.co.uk

into your cmd prompt and post the results here :)

Getting terrible P2P speeds last night (<10kB/s) and night-before (<15kB/s). So I go to turbocharge and get the following popup:

"Turbocharge Not Recommended
Please be advised that your account is currently unshaped
There is no need for you to activate Turbocharge at the moment, however if you wish to ensure that your account remains completely unshaped for a period of time you can still opt to enable Turbocharge"

What do you mean unshaped? Are you playing with words - what - am I unshaped but heavily throttled? 'turbocharge' has done nothing. No wait - speed increased from 10kB/s to . . . 10.5kB/s

@Afriman - fix my line!

If your account wasn't being shaped, then it's definitely not a restriction on our side on your torrents. It's very hard to benchmark speeds on torrents as you are limited more by the people you are sharing from (seeders) more than the network. If there is no shaping on your account, the only thing we apply is QoS, so that if you are running multiple services, we'll give your realtime first priority to ensure the best experience.

Best way to test is to sign up a free GB and then test on a completely unshaped account (with no other services running at all). then switch over and run the same test.

I have noticed for the entire week: During Office Hours my 4MB account runs as a 2MB account. Then this continues until about 11PM where it runs again at full speed??? 4MB Business Uncapped:

I have pulled down 170GB this month so far? Am I over the 7 day usage for 4mb? If so then some notice would be beneficial in the control center

We definitely don't have those kind of time restrictions on our side, our shaping works in real time, but only affects torrents and file sharing/downloads.

Are traces different during the two periods? Perhaps there is intermittent latency on the line, or congestion on the exchange?

I actually should use another ADSL account to test this, as its been happening like clockwork? Congestion on the Exchange?

*SLAP* I have been complaining about this Exchange for months to Telkom and to you guys.

Please see here Afriman

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/512534-Durbanville-ADSL-Users-(Your-feedback-needed)

Durbanville has had a long history of congestion, especially since VDSL was introduced. To my knowledge they have upgraded the backhaul from the exchange about 3-4 times already, and it gets congested again within a month or so. Last I heard Telkom had said they would look at this in about 6 months or so :(

It seems that this Telkom Exchange has become so bad that its causing slow speeds during Business Hours now as well:

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/2831751033

At least I know its not Afrirock

You tested the Capped account this morning? Did you try it last night? Did you also by any chance run a traceroute?
As you said, you weren't being shaped,so it may have been your line or your exchange.
Tested with the capped lastnight and this morning. Reset the router multiple times. Ran the tweak my line tool a few times too with no luck.

Durbanville has had a long history of congestion, especially since VDSL was introduced. To my knowledge they have upgraded the backhaul from the exchange about 3-4 times already, and it gets congested again within a month or so. Last I heard Telkom had said they would look at this in about 6 months or so :(

"upgraded" or fixed? Because if they have upgraded 3-4 times in the last < 2 years, they're failing on an epic level. They're busy upgrading to VSDL in my area and surely they are aware of the amount of bandwidth they need on the backhaul if they're implementing this.

There seems to be something wrong somewhere between your DSLAM and exchange. @Afriman - Help?

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!

Seems neither telkom nor afrihost can solve this one:

Since i signed up with afrihost (from april) i noticed that speedtest results between local and international servers were very different (international is consistently about 1/3 of local download speed test) ive tested with mybroadband speed test and speedtest.net with the same results (saix speed test gives me crazy results such as 15mbps on a 4mbps line for some reason???)

both telkom and afrihost claim their side is clean with no detectable problems and have suggested that the problem is with my computer or modem. ive tested with different routers and computers and consistently get the same results:
