Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

I've tried searching the thread but cannot find a current and definitive answer, apologies if I might have missed it.

I left AH during the IS-MTN switch, because my FTP traffic was fubar (unfortunately FTP is critical for my work).

Signed up for the Business uncapped on Friday to see if things have improved and I am pleased to see that it has. Now before sending off my cancellation forms to my current provider I would like to know if the rolling window threshold is applicable to the uncapped business account, if so, what are the thresholds on a 4MB line?

Thanks in advance.

Can state that Stellenbosch is also not right, very high latencies and some packet loss.

The thing I find amazing is that Telkom staff appear to live in a bubble where everything is perfect. They refuse to acknowledge that anything is wrong. To think that the rest of the world is running and deploying gigabit fibre makes me realise how third world this country really is.

We're looking to do away with rolling windows on all uncapped accounts. For business, our aim is to never shape (even after hours). Office hours are guaranteed unshaped, and after hours will only ever be shaped in exceptional circumstances (IPC outage, for example). We did publish some thresholds at launch, but we're not applying them at the moment :)

Good to know - I'm stuck with a 30 day notice but will run AH for the next few weeks and see how it goes. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

So, I figured that 99% of the post's on this thread are moaning about different issues, and seen as it is a FEEDBACK thread and not just a complaining thread, I felt like giving some positive feedback. I have been an Afrihost subscriber since about January last year, and am on a 10MB uncapped account.

On Friday evening I finally bit the bullet and bought myself an Apple TV. After opening it up and getting though the setup, I signed up for Netflix and Hulu Plus with Unotelly as my DNS. The service runs flawlessly. It streams full 1080p HD without a problem and I can still browse the internet and play www.interwebsradio.com all at the same time. DStv cancelled as of this morning.

So that was what I spent the entire weekend doing! Just wanted to say thanks to Afrihost. There have been quite a few problems since the move, but I feel like I am getting more than my moneys worth. I also think that when the MTN internet works, it works well. Coupled with that is Afrihost's awesome customer service, and all the extra things they come up with. (I was planning on using some of my "Turbo Boost" sessions, but I didn't need to, as the internet was pretty much unshaped from when I got home Friday evening till when I left for work this morning.

Anyway, thanks Afrihost for the great service, value for money and support. I will continue supporting your company, so long as you can keep doing what you are good at!

You have such a fantastic new network, or so you say. I have downloaded 75 gigs this month on a 2mb. Half of what I would normally download. my downloads are currently at 25kbps. just more then ten percent of what it should normally be.

And does your clientzone say you are shaped?

This was really awesome to read! Thanks so much for posting this! It's always good to hear some balanced feedback :)

So if I am reading correctly, Business Uncapped accounts have no rolling windows and should never be throttled? only shaped if needed?

Nice! :D I think Gian did the right thing in moving Afrihost over to the MTN network. All the growing pains paid off...

Tell us, you can pick and choose what to watch (on-demand) rather than waiting for the next program to come up?

Unfortunately, Somerset West's speeds still dead slow.

Oh well, I guess we will have to wait for telkom.

Hi Zertop, have you logged a fault directly with Telkom. I've spoken to them a few times today and they don't have a clue, but I think the more people who log faults, the better.

Business and normal don't have ROLLING throttles ............. if the network gets busy then normal capped is shaped (LIKE NOW)

I should not have opened my mouth earlier ............. :-) Funny how these things happen..............

I do not have a business account so I can't speak for that account. I have a normal account as back-up and the normal uncapped 2Mbps
