AfriHost uncapped ADSL here soon

Just 24 hours ago, Afrihost were singing a totally different tune...

We are not offering the uncapped solution in the next short while. However I would suggest that you keep your eyes peeled as I can tell you that we will continue bringing out new exciting products in our drive to bring broadband prices down

:wtf:

This is unfolding faster than I expected. I have accounts with Telkom, Mweb, Web Africa and Afrihost, with enough cap in reserve to see me to month end.
I will not make any moves till then.
It will be interesting to see if Telkom under cut them all, as they can and probably do cross subsidize with the line rentals and ipconnect charges.
They certainly won't react quickly though.

Yep, that is the danger. Telkom could quite easily undercut them all and drive them out of business. :(
I don't think they WILL do it (they will get hauled up before the CC again), hopefully they will just play the price war game.

Just over 80 gig max, I think is the theoretical max for 384

Not really, just under 100 gig max is the theoretical max for 384 but as McT said you really gotta be hammering it 24/7 to get even close to that. Just a few hours down time and you wont hit the target.

 WebAfrica or Afrihost

I'm talking real world theoretical, not perfect experimental environment theoretical. Go read the digichilli and screamer threads, was discussed to death...

Wonder how this will change when/if/should Telkom change the DSL lines speeds, like they did a few years back. Will everyone up the account speeds or will we just be stuck on a 384 speed account? :p

lol. Theoretical is theoretical, no 2 meanings to it. If you really want to be pedantic about it and say you were talking real world figures say "In real world conditions you could only get 80 gig max blah blah blah"

There is difference between what you get in real world (i.e. isp/telkom downtime ect), what you would get without this (what I was refering to) and what you would get without small overheads that you would find in the 2nd situation which you cannot escape...

Could be wrong though, think it may have been in context to the slower 256kb offering from Screamer :erm:

Going to be interesting to see what their prices are like. I was thinking its going to be difficult to be cheaper than MWeb but then again, who knows!

I want to know what is going to happen when the next cable lands on our shores :)

Obviously Internet solutions wanted to get involved in this little war, but still keep there hands clean, hence the amazingly quick Afrihost announcement.

Whilst uncapped accounts from Afrihost are always welcome I doubt they would be able to match the speeds/stability of Mweb. Mweb already has loads of Moms and Pops who wont be downloading 24/7 whilst Afrihost has attracted mainly the power users who download a lot. So Mweb has way more of those Moms and Pops subsidizing their downloaders which will result in their network being more stable and reliable for the same price as Afrihost.

about afrihost
We are now Internet Solutions’ biggest reseller of bandwidth, eclipsing many of their old stalwarts. We also estimate that we are one of the top four in the country in terms of ADSL volume per month.

yer, their network cant handle it.

The sun set long ago, but I can feel the heat rising from the Webafrica Boardrooms all the way in the northern suburbs.

They "have to" drop pricing in order not to see their business evaporate over the next 3-6 months. As will all the other major ISPs.

I wonder if this will have an effect on the very slow moving mobile and fixed wireless people?
