Spoke to one of the support guys at Afrihost about this "data projecting" and he denies any existence of it.According to him the FUP currently being implemented is the one that is on their website ie 50GB then 100 GB etc etc.
Needless to say it would be nice to have the presence of one of the senior Afrihost reps available on this forum to clear up all this confusion.

Well then someone is liar. Quote from an email sent to me by support:

Thanks for the mail, i have checked your account and see that you are currently being throttled as it is only the 11th of the month and you are already on 77.5 gig for the month and based on the projected download this month your account has been throttle.

What i can suggest is that you try to minimize your downloads for the week and weekend as you slow down your speed will increase as you download more the speed will drop based on your projected amount of gig in this month.

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Albert

We apologize for the inconvenience.

But as per our discussion on the phone this problem is being given the priority.

Our system administrators are busy working on the problems.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Sylvester

So even if I continued at this rate @4mbps for the rest of the month I would achieve 220gig in the month... So it is safe to say that you will never get over 150gig on this Uncapped package on a 4mbps line. Which I never have any way!!! MWEB is starting to look appealing...

The problem seems to be partially rectified.I say partially because I can only get download speeds of 100KB/s(my usage is 55GB's)
Last month my speeds were 200KB/s after 50GB's.

??
Your speedtest indicates that your download speed is 135KB/s which is same as mine

That was a very brief period of time.... for the last 5 days its been @ 100kbps (kilobits) not 100KB/s (kilobytes). Speedtest wont even run right now!

4mb line should get about 3600kbps (kilobits per second) which is over 400kB/s (kilobytes per second). Remember that a 384 line is 384kbps, with overheads etc you can achieve about 45kB/s on a 384, so I'm getting less than 10kB/s !

That = 1% of my actual line speed!

EDIT: Confirmed that there is "Line Congestion" and it should be rectified by the end of today....

Another EDIT: Speeds up a bit again...

Received this e-mail from AH....giving the option to revert back to capped account until they sort out their problems

"Hi

The contention ratio problem developed as we received more and more clients coming over to our Afrihost service. The ratio is currently 20:1

This is something we are working on and hope to resolve. You can look into possibly downgrading to an UNShaped ADSL capped account for the moment until we have resolved the contention ratio."

Getting a massive 10KB/s with no clear indication from Afrihost when this will be resolved. It is obviously time to move on to another ISP.

At this stage I also feel to move away from AH but which ISP can I choose?
