This is absolutely awesome. Usage for the month 73Gb. I have a greater upload speed than download on a 4Mb line. It is costing R 900 a month (including Telkom) and for that I am getting these speeds!!!!! So am I to assume that uncapped = we wont cut you off, just make it unusable and then see what you do about it. wtf

I just signed up today. First day has been great. Waiting to see what happens when my usage grows a little more, though I am not too concerned as I am not that much of a heavy user.

It seems to me the Mweb uncapped has better online support in this forum, do any of the other uncapped ISP's have someone online on this forum?

I'm glad I cancelled Afrihost 2 months ago. I supported their business but they offered me nothing in return.

Just got off the phone with AH, seems the smartest idea they could come up with is routing ALL their uncapped accounts through a single server. So this means if that server is congested... EVERYONE gets throttled, not the 7% they claim. I've been throttled because my business (an internet cafe) used 18GB.

The hilarious thing is, is that they DO have a solution to fix this, namely putting you on the IS backbone. They just don't bother to do anything or tell you about unless you make the effort to phone them and demand answers.

Well did they fix your problem by putting you on the IS backbone or something????

Dear user

We've made some changes to your uncapped account
(username@afrihost.co.za) which we believe will
improve the overall performance and speed of your
ADSL connection with us.

Please read this email carefully to see what you need
to do to take advantage of these changes now.

Why have we made this change to your account?

In July we changed the way we manage our Uncapped
clients - While we knew this way of managing our
bandwidth would give most of our clients a better
overall experience we also knew it could possibly
affect the performance of our uncapped clients.

(In case you missed it I've included a copy of the
email I sent through in mid June explaining all this
in detail)

Whenever our capacity is stretched our Bandwidth
Manager system automatically adjusts the speeds
of uncapped clients and thus your overall performance
has been slower than we would like over the last while.

So what's the good news?

Based on your download and usage patterns we believe
that an Uncapped ADSL account on the Internet Solutions
(IS) Uncapped Realm will be better suited for you.

We have thus created you an Afrihost-IS Uncapped
ADSL account that you can start enjoying right away.

These uncapped accounts are the exact same packages
currently being resold in the marketplace by all IS resellers.

These accounts will be managed by IS and make use of
availalibilty across their network.

Another benefit of these accounts is that you can have
2 concurrent connections using your uncapped account
at the same time.

(Note though that if 2 locations are connected using the
same username at the same time then your speed is simply
halved for the duration of the simultaneous connections)

I'm confident that this solutions will be more suitable for
your usage and downloading needs.

When can you start using your new Uncapped account?

Your new Afrihost-IS uncapped account has been
created already and is ready for you to use right now.

Simply make the changes outlined below and you can
start using it right away.

What's your new Username? What do you need to do?

The only thing you need to change is your Afrihost
ADSL username and restart your router.

Your password is unchanged and you do not need to
make any changes to it

Your new username is username@is.afrihost.co.za

So simply add "is." after the @ sign in your current
username (username@afrihost.co.za) in your router
settings and you are done.

As soon as you've saved these details and restarted
your router you will be logged onto your new
uncapped account.

If you need any help doing this please reply and
I'll get one of our team to phone you ASAP

When do you need to make this change by?

Your old uncapped username (username@afrihost.co.za)
will keep working till Friday morning this week - after this
only your new username will remain active.

So please be sure to change your username from
username@afrihost.co.za to username@is.afrihost.co.za
as soon as possible to avoid any break in your connectivity.

Why is this new account better for you?

The way our Bandwidth Manager sytem works means
that your account will automatically be managed
whenever there is pressure on our capacity and as such
will generally be slower than our other clients.

While the IS reseller account is also shaped during office
hours is generally opened up more after hours.

And based on your downloading and usage history
this will probably suit you better than the way we
will manage your account on our network going into
the future.

Added to this your new uncapped account allows for
2 simultaneous connections from different locations.

Will this cost you anything extra?

No - Everything else stays exactly the same.

You still deal with us in exactly the same way that
you have in the past.

There's no change to your billing, support or client
zone login details.

The only thing that changes is your username and
hopefully your performance!

Remember to please let me know if you need any help
with changing your username and I'll make sure we
contact you to help you out.

Alternately please feel free to give us a call on
011 612 7200 if you need any help.

Thanks and as always if you need anything please let
me know.

Warm regards

It's not an upgrade it's a 'migration'

I ALSO GOT MOVED TO the is account. Sofar my speeds have been better. However my speeds are still not as good as they were before july, when they changed their throttling.

I hate posting this because I do like afrihost however I recently had to cancel my account - this month has been the worst. Right now I am getting 3kbps on my uncapped from yousendit - its after hours and it's a file I need for work. Its gonna take half an hour for a 10 meg file on http.

I checked my usage and its 12gb total for the month - so there should be no throttling. What the hell afrihost.

I'm also considering my options but will see how my new IS functions in the next month. Granted I have downloaded quite a bit on my 384 :)

Afrihost managed accounts

I had the same problem and contacted Afrihost - it seems they add your previous month's total to the current month and then "manage" your account to speeds less than the 384 kbps package. So I decided to "manage" my account to a different ISP
