Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

latency is KAAAAK with Afrihost 4MB uncapped

well today I gave Axxess the boot, and moved over to afrihost

for 50% of the price, kinda hard to resist :D

so some feedback...

I find HTTP downloads slightly slower. Normally get full 440K/sec with axxess, get about 400K/sec with Afrihost... (cant really complain there!)

But the worst is the latency, OMFG

Im not really one to moan about much, but seriously...

This connection via two baked beans tins and a piece of string or what!? :wtf:

Did you honestly expect the same level of service?

nah I suppose you right. Ill stick to using my webafrica account for gaming and this one for downloading/general useage...

kudos to them for coming to the party though! :)

That would be a good compromise I reckon, would probably do the same thing.

hmmm... interesting... just did a hard reset of my router and off she goes!!!

latency now totally acceptable :)

@HTC_guy

It's odd. When I try that address on Afrihost I average about 320ms. Can you try it again and see if it is still so bad?

EDIT: Ah didn't see your latest. No worry.

I am getting terrible speeds and my ping is 299ms to the Pretoria server on Speedtest.net. It was fine till 17:30 today and now all of a sudden, everything is slow...even local browsing.
Anyone else experiencing this?

Nope, I have yet to experiance any problems with afrihost after 5pm, I know mid-day speed test reported 1.5mbps so about 40% speed roughly but other than that, everythings cruising nicely

Maestr0

Your not the only one , upped my account this afternoon and was running fine ( playing wow on 2 pc's , speednet ping 56 - 70) at +-300ms each , then at around 6:50pm getting 9000ms + and speedtest ping > 120

but i do know that they are in a "trial phase"

ok cool :). could also be that when everyone got home after 17:00 they started downloading the internet. So hopefully it will go fast during the day :). Guess we will just have to grind our teeth until they get their **** sorted out.

torrents have been going really well since 5pm as mentioned earlier. did a spedtest while utorrent was at 150kb/s:

not too bad - so far very happy with the afrihost offering.

Based on comments earlier on today, at 5pm, they seemed to have removed the shaping on torrents, which may have contributed to the downloading of the internet. I used nntp today via Astraweb and got maximum speeds. Back on Axxess tonight, though. Don't want any black marks against my new Arfrihost account... yet.

haha good point, I still have a week of my axxess express left!, gonna change it now for tonight.

well wierd thing is speed test is still giving me ****ty results, but my download from Astraweb is getting between 200KB/s and 400KB/s...so I probably don't have anything to complain about ;).

Afrihost has some very interesting shaping going on.

I have 30MS ping to saix.net standard, but when I exceed 50/100kb per second, it jumps to 400+ until I stop them, no matter what speed they do. This is the same up to 400kb/second ( and yes, I have throttled them to the specific speeds to test.)

Hi Guys

Rest assured - again from my trusted inside source, IS is apparently bringing to the masses ( afrihost - axxess and the lot ) a new product, which is the uncapped offerings we are seeing now. This is to be in direct competition to Mweb and later Telkom. They ( IS ) are working on streamlining/tweaking the new uncapped products, hence the eratic speed results we all see....

It will settle in due course.......

I too get up and down speeds & latency - so just sit back and enjoy your new found interwebz joy ! .....:D

Anyone notice their ip starting with 196.215.x.x these days instead of the old 196.209.x.x or 196.210.x.x
