Afrihost Uncapped Subscribers Feedback

@afrihost: if things dont look as good as the mweb feedback posts by 5 days before the end of next month you're losing a customer. And to think you're planning to open up to 384k and 512k this coming week...

@afrihost: +1

From looking at some of the feedback on MWeb the torrent are pretty much slow there as well. I think with all the ISP's out there torrents = fail!

Go usenet - far less problems.

torrents are a uniquely difficult way to measure performance across networks. there are so many factors that can impact on performance.

for instance, connected wirelessly to my router with a weak signal on mweb, I am getting 200kB/s. First time using uTorrent on Mac so can't be sure all settings are correct. Also connected to 47 of 2000+ seeds.

Can't even cancel un-capped for next month since it's passed the 25th .. stuffed now .. have to pay R500 odd for 384 speeds.

I'm definately not going to pay another month for this, I want to see them make me.

if you are contracted, black listing agencies may come into play. or you could go the route of contesting it in a small claims court if such works in SA.

There is something really funky going on here. Totally polar opposites between the reports in this thread even when only a few mins separates the posts.

I'm betting its some congested land link somewhere & only some of the people are getting routed over it. Needs more traceroutes.

Well my local speed is back again.
Local speed test:

And international isn't too bad either:

I wonder what the hell was going on between yesterday 17:00 until today 19:00???

speeds are back up since about 5:00pm.

finally got a reply from afrihost

Hi Kevin
I trust you are well.:)

Kindly send us a trace route so we may better asess the problem affecting your service.
Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

Hmm, HTTP surfing has been up the crapper tonight. I've done hard restarts of my modem and sometimes I'm having problems surfing. I get connection timeouts on any site I try to visit, not just international...

Torrent speeds were great though, and news servers reached 350 KB/s.

you also have to understand where each user is coming from. I would bet most people who were used to the IS after hours, would be unhappy. While those from capped accounts would still be be happy. So the exact same service can provide polar views.

edit: crap http is a problem though

I'm using both WA and IS to surf the net. Looks like it's not a problem with the ISP, but with the routing to the cables.

A contract goes two ways. Their inability to provide the service they've advertised, in addition to having no reasonable support system in place after hours, have put them in breach. There is, thus, no more contract. If it had to go that far (which I seriously doubt), there's enough info in this thread alone to prove my point.

good luck in proving that against the T&Cs you've agreed to

We found out on Friday how the IS uncapped systems differentiate.
It is now possible for an IS resellers to change the shaping and speed for any of their clients 'on the fly'.
We have currently decided not to resell this product as we believe it should be the Tier 1 provider's responsibility to provide a best case service 24/7. Therefore, we will continue to sell the IS Uncapped Basic shaped product which seems to be giving amazing results so far.

So I would say to hold on a little as their service will improve as their algorythms improve - to give you the best service for the best price to them continues. Im sure they will do it and do it well.
