So

I have this pc (newly installed) it just randomly loses all icons etc and i can't even use ctrl-alt-delete to start explorer again or anything, the pc works since the mouse can move, and i can see if something runs, but nothing shows on the screen

only the background and the mouse pointer,

anyone got an idea where this could've come from?

Regards
Peder

edit: Pc Specs: XP, Service pack 3, Acer Laptop, Travelmate 4102

A birthday gift?

Hope it comes right!!

nope he he, was something i have been struggling with for a few days, just haven't got round to it.

Strange thing is i am thinking it may be what the "user" was explaining, he said the pc stopped responding, so i immediately thought it hung or whatever but it seems it just does this, i reloaded it so this is mighty strange

Which OS?
System?
etc... more info then someone might be able to help bit more.
There are quite a few solutions found just from googling.
So not quite sure what possible answer could be

If not a corrupted file (explorer.exe) then it sounds like a driver issue. Normally due to virus/malware (explorer).

thanks it seems to have worked, what causes that to be a problem?

Windows allocates a certain amount of memory for showing icons so that they don't have to be refreshed every time you show your desktop. On some systems and some configurations that default size is not optimal, and with the amount of RAM that people have these days there is no reason why it can't be larger.
