Something strange has started happening on my box I'm running opensuse 11 everything was working fine till a few day's ago all my avi video's when playing back using xine video freezes and jerks with mplayer i've got smooth playback but video is out of sync with the audio i have not changed anything on my system this has just happened out of the blue any body got any ideas What might be causing this

If you start up the player from a terminal window ... play your video then shutdown the player ... It might give some errors that you can trace in there ....

noticed this happening when the hard drive that the data was on started to fail..

Like mentioned, without a log, there can be a couple of causes to this, most common:
* HD failing
* OpenGL acceleration messed up (most common) - just choose another video driver in the setup of the media player
* Desktop effects putting to much strain on the gfx card (composit)
* Some arb config gone haywire (very unlikely since the problem is reproduced over QT and GTK based software.) - but to be thorough, try another WM like Fluxbox.

well its kinda strange that this problem recently just started another thing is that some of the movies and vids are on flash stick and portable harddrive so i dont think those are failing but what i did do today is i tried watching the movies while i was running xfce and they play very well using the same media players so i think the problem is with kde 3.5x and kde 4.1 will test some more
