All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Anyone know WTF is going on... what is my peanut brain missing here :

So the current time is 6:54am

I have fiddled around with the timings to get the batteries how I want them, almost depleted in the morning and then charge through the day, full at night when I go to sleep as I run aircons and then start again.

  • Currently 6:54am fits into "time 2" = 4am - 8am on my sheet. Which clearly shows a battery level of 30%. Does that not mean it should NOT be using Eskom and it should use the batteries until they drop down to 30%, when they get to that level the system will charge them back up using either Eskom or solar panels.

But look at the flow graph, right now I am using Eskom and its charging my batteries... ummmm

Last night at 22:00 the batteries were at 95% = correct. But then it just stayed on Eskom and didn't swop over to using the batteries at night.

Any thoughts?

Ok I think I solved the problem, it seems un-ticking the boxes actually means they are active... and ticking the boxes means they are inactive

I got an email from SunSynk to switch the Sunsynk Connect Pro app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=versionx.ss.connectpro&hl=en-US&pli=1

Basic research shows that it's a subscription type app where if you want AI and automations, etc you pay them money every month. Basic features remain 'free'. Has anybody used this app and all the features? I am wondering if the AI features can help those Noobs that know nothing about optimising load, etc as such would be a good service for them to subscribe too.

Will we all be forced to move to the new app? While, I don't use my app since Solar Assistant does my heavy lifting, just interested in any feedback.

Too scared to install/login to the new app in case I can never go back 😅

R250 per month! Looks like reviews of the AI are bad. Both apps can be use simulataneously.
 
I hope the change to the app is temporary. The app has changed the colours it uses for pv, load etc and that change through me for a loop this morning.

I noticed something strange on Saturday morning (21-March) where my system was pulling electricity from the Grid to charge the batteries?

I am unsure what was causing it. My batteries had dropped to around 20% at 6:55am, and then suddenly it started pulling electricity from the Eskom grid, even though I've set my SOC to 15% before it starts pulling from the grid. It seemed to pull from the grid between 7am up until 8am, so my batteries went from 20% to 40% before it stopped pulling from the grid again. I thought it was some sort of anomaly or something. I checked all my settings and all my grid charge timers were unticked and my battery SOC start charge was still at 15%. Battery Shutdown is at 10% and Restart and Low Batt are set to 15%. I had not changed anything recently, so I am unsure what caused the sudden grid pull out of the ordinary. (I've had my system since 2021, and have not changed these settings since then)

I tried to go back through the whole of March and February and no other grid usage was noticed, but then again my batteries had not gotten to 20% recently (lots of cloudy weather and rain here in JHB the past few days).

Then this morning (23-March), I noticed it again. This time at 3:25am, my SOC was at 18%, and the system started pulling from the grid again to top up the batteries. It stopped pulling from the grid at 4:30am when the batteries were around 38%. So it seems to pull Eksom grid for an hour before stopping.

So I am unsure what is actually causing this grid usage. I've looked through all the settings again, but cannot find anything unless I'm missing something? I've attached some screenshots, if anyone needs more screenshots or settings, let me know. Thanks.

What happens if you untick grid charge for all the timeslots?

Check on your " Time of use" and the battery settings on the inverter itself. At least things are a bit clearer there.

The inverter is just doing what it was told to do. Not sure what you want to happen when the batteries get low?

Usually when the batteries reach 15%, then it will switch over to use electricity from the grid, until the sun comes up and charges the batteries again.

But it would never charge the batteries from the grid if the batteries are low, especially randomly in the middle of the night.

Like I said, I've had these setting setup the same since I got the system 5 years ago. I have not fiddled with the settings at all recently. This weird issue of the system charging the batteries randomly in the middle of the night only started recently.

I'll continue to monitor it though. Last night the batteries were at 15%, and there were spikes of charging, but not like the previous night. Very strange.

And no, nothing comes on in the middle of the night to use electricity. The below is strictly batteries charging. The only items on in the middle of the night are the outdoor lights and the two fridges.

When it happens again, check the bms screen on the inverter itself and see what info is provided there.
Im wondering if the bms doesnt like the low soc now that its older, and is instructing the inverter to charge up.

Option 2: 8kW Solis/Hubble

2 x 5kWhr Hubble AM-5 Lithium battery

I have already asked the installer to add another 2 panels, waiting for feedback.

Basically, which is the better direction to go: sunsynk or solis?

Have you considered just going with Deye inverter and batteries?

This is the first quote I received and these are the brands the installer is punting.

I thought deye = sunsynk
same hardware, different software layer on the inverter and the app side
 
Hey everyone. I should probably read through all the pages to see if this has been asked, but any guidance would be great.

We bought a house with a solar system installed, namely an 8kw inverter, 12 panels and 2x 5.32kw batteries (Sunsynk inverter and batteries). It is around 3 years old, batteries still in very good health.

I really want to upgrade the battery capacity as our fridges/cameras/spotlights etc make for a reasonably high "idle" load. While the batteries last the night, I'm doubtful if they'll last during winter / we sometimes use the airfryer quite a bit for dinner.

In short, the inverter is perfect for our needs but I'm looking for recommendations on expanding the battery capacity. And due to the 5.32kwh batteries, they are "end of life" with regards to Sunsynk, but could get Eenovance. Which still seems pretty expensive compared to other brands. Should I:

  1. Buy another Sunsynk / Eenovance 5Kwh battery. Looks to be around R23k installed with the wiring etc, does this sound correct?

  2. Is there a market for secondhand batteries? I couldn't find much, but then I could possibly get a Deye 16Kwh battery instead. Should be less than R40k installed, offset with the battery sale this could be cheaper.

  3. Get a Sunsynk Klik, which allows me to get a different brand battery for expansion. But there is so little info available, not sure if it's worth the risk?

  4. Should I leave the system as is, and just pay the bit extra for Eskom every month.

There definitely is a market for second hand batteries BUT you'll take quite a knock on your current set since they are EOL - sellers are seen as desperate because prices have come down and capacities have increased and the choice in the amrket is much muhc more
