All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

I had a similar problem. It was resolved when the earthing on each string of solar panels were redone and split. No El trips after that
 
I had earth leakage trips which coincidentally started around the time mine was installed.

The electrician that came to do the CoC tested my earth leakage protector (Whatever that thing is called) and said it's probably faulty. I suspect the addition of the new equipment just pushed it over the edge.

I just got a new one at Builders and replaced it myself, and the problem was solved.
 
Surge arrestors can cause a dicky EL to trip. Replace the earth leakage and make sure your panels are not on common earth, but connected to their own earth spike.
 
Quick Q for the electrical engineers.
We had an outage today that was down to one phase at the substation being down. As a result, we were getting 195v on our grid incoming line. I'm on single phase.
The inverter seemed to happily use that 195v to charge my batteries - it was using around 4Kw when I noticed the voltage was low (frequency was still a stable 50hz). I switched off for safety sake - I don't know the cause of the phase being down - could be an intermittent fault - and I don't want to deal with expensive equipment being roasted.
Is the inverter really able to take a low input like that and rectify it without issues? I'm surprised it didn't isolate it based on the grid settings.

Well, it can't use the grid AC grid to invert. Inverting is for DC->AC. But it could probably use the grid AC to generate the DC to charge your battery.

Not sure which inverter you have, but most of them will match the incoming grid voltage, and pass that to the load. So your loads probably also saw the low voltages.

Corrected - can it rectify 195v AC to 50v DC without issues is the correct q.

As per thread - 2x 5.5kw Sunsynks. I am curious about that. I was hoping output would be constant 230v despite the low input. My concern is I'm not always here when these things happen and I don't want to roast equipment.

Hmm that kind of goes against what I know. Your inverter voltage is normally higher than your incoming which is how the inverter is able to feed local loads first and reduce grid demand. Does that mean the voltage while higher was still significantly reduced, not sure. Some inverters set thier voltage but thats in the case of grid loss, so with a low voltage grid in, maybe not.

What do the stats say?

Does anyone have any tips on enhancing the security of the Sunsynk dongle? My security software indicates that it is affected by 6 CVEs.
I believe the security issues may be related to the Sunsynk dongle continuously broadcasting its Wi-Fi signal with a simple-to-guess password. How can I change this setting to enhance its security?

I dobt think the 6 CVEs all relate to just the wifi. The worst in my books is that I can change your settings by simply asking someone on Whatsapp to change them and giving them your dongle serial. They are inherently insecure.

I just unplugged mine and am using solar assistant. I'll plug them in again if I need support but they stay unplugged otherwise.

Which security software are you using BTW?

195V is low, but not super crazy low, it shouldn't cause any problems by itself.

Ouch. I know the solarman dongle uses a pretty strong password which is visible via the sticker on the dongle so one has to be physically present to access it.

+1 for this. I've got the Solarman not the Sunsynk one, but the plan is ultimately to go with solar-assistant once my budget has recovered from the huge shock of installing the system.
 
Since enabling solarman integration and logging the inverters reported SOC - it goes all over the show compared to solar-assistant.

It looks like it might be some sort of balancing issue - the inverter reported soc jumps between the most charged battery, and the least charged:

So my batteries are out of sync after hitting 100% last night briefly before loadshedding. I suspect what's happening is the BMS starts balancing them - and then suddenly it stops before completing because of events like load shedding. Will see how it goes next time they make 100% for a few hours.

I don't really get why people choose to go with solar-assistant. It's obviously a really good product, I just don't get the use case for it (especially if one is already running HA).
 
Hi guys

I noticed on my 8kw inverter the DC green led light, randomly is off when everything is working as normal.
When i pass again later the light would be back on.

Not sure what could be causing this. faulty led maybe?

From what I can tell, there are some practical advantages:
  • You can write values to the inverter, so I could make decisions about whether to charge the battery from grid based on whether there's load-shedding coming up for example. (I know that I can adjust settings via the Solarman app, but I can't see that the HA integration has that ability, if it does.)
  • Faster response, solarman updates once per minute, if solar-assistant can be faster than this that would be great.
  • Not relying on a cloud connection, in fact if you prefer you don't need wifi at all, you can plug into the ethernet. For the tinfoil-hat-paranoid, there are advantages to this. This is ideological I guess more than practical.

I'm an electronic engineer by profession so if I weren't lazy, I'd get an RS458 cable and talk to the inverter myself directly. But I'm lazy, I'd rather spend some money and buy a product.
