All you programmers out there, please chime in.

You do not need a degree to be one of the most iconic coders of our time.

Case in point, the lady who help code the processing of the first image of a black hole - did not have a computer science degree.

She has a masters in physics. You do not need a degree in computer science to code. You do not need a degree at all to code (Zuckerberg). You do not need a degree at all the be one of the best coders.

@cguy claims to be a hotshot in the tech valley - there is also a nigerian claiming to be brad pitt to a very well off married French interior designer.

@CW67 If someone says you need a degree to code, it might be because they will financially benefit from it. Like doctors that get kickbacks for meds they prescribe. It is a scam. There are millions of hours of videos on YouTube. There's a community of millions on stackoverflow to help you every step of the way - and they are fast and very friendly when they respond to your questions.

This thread is about coding in Python to be exact
You're the one making a fool of yourself rattling on about how useless degrees are.

I'm sure you're one of those guys who asks chatgpt what the best sorting algorithm is, imports it from a library and pats yourself on the back for a job well done.

All while not realizing the most suitable algorithm depends on the exact nature of the problem being solved and worse, not having the tools to make an educated decision around it.

Once again - completely puerile argumentation. Nobody made that claim - it's a straw man.

Completely missing the point. Any STEM degree is great to have for software engineers. You do maths, you do stats (both very relevant to most careers writing advanced code), and you have domain knowledge, and very often you do some level of coding too.

Didnt mean to offend you when I pointed out at how Standard Bank's IT department sucks. It is common knowledge on MBB

You still don't realise that a degree in "coding" doesn't exist.

As an aside, she has a masters in physics. Without that degree she more than likely wouldn't have been able to solve that particular problem. What you think of as "coding" is only a small part of the larger education you get at university. If I had to take a guess my computer science degree was 90% based in mathematics and maybe 10% what you would call "coding".

FYI, all physicists do some computer science modules during their studies.

So do engineers. Does not mean they can code.

I have no thoughts on Standard Bank. Never been a client nor worked for them. I do however spend 90% of my time solving science based problems through programming.

When you call people fools, you are not so "harmonic" as you wish to be :)

You cant remember? You can just click the link to the comment you made. I did link it for you so you dont have trouble finding it
I think you’re confused. I don’t think anyone needs a degree, and neither does Elon. This is not mutually exclusive to “but it would really help a lot”.
