What is the value of using a second tier service provider like Autopage?

I have been a loyal customer at Autopage for over 10 years and had multiple contracts and lines with them but see no loyalty from them. Is it better to go direct to Vodacom, MTN or CellC? Or am I missing something?

It's hard to generalise. You have to find someone knowledgeable when you are renewing or taking a new contract. It often boils down to the individual as there's high staff turnover at the counter. Nashua, Autopage can at least offer the best of any provider. For ongoing contracts, service response is important. Nashua seems OK. Vodacom service provider - I prefer the walk-in service. MTN service provider I find quite erratic - from good to awful. Autopage I haven't tried but I know they are tight in their ratio of service staff to customers (may reflect in slower response times or longer time on the phone). Cell C service provider - had reasonable service from them.

My Cell C contract is with them and I pay less for my GS2 with more airtime/data than if I went direct with Cell C.

If you are directly contracted to an SP you can contact them directly and not wait for a response. Also calling the SP direct from your mobile is then a free call.

I am afraid that you won't discover any loyalty, whether you use one of the second tier providers or the provider directly. I have for instance been with Vodacom directly for 12 years, but have an uphill battle with every little request I have, so they certainly don't look at your account duration/money spend period and give you better service. It is all pretty much the same IMO. What may be better with dealing with the provider directly is that you may get faster response times for issues that is out of the control of the second tier and with the provider directly.

After the December 2011 period, Autopage packages have offered less value for money. For example, if you compare the MTNSP/Vodacom flyers to Autopage upgrade pricelist, you will always find Autopage a lot more expensive.

A new contact with Autopage is variable, you could get some good deals sometimes. But EVERY upgrade deal sucks, I have monitored this over time and it is always more expensive. So I decided to cancel my one contract, and after 3 weeks they tell me they did not received my request for cancellation. Even though they sent an SMS acknowledging the specific request.

I took out a MTN TopUp 200 contract for my daughter several years ago, with Autopage. She recently relocated to Singapore and I tried (in vain) to cancel the contract. Tried to get a settlement amount, but this was more than the cost of running the contract out to full term! How stupid do these idiots think I am? Ok, so with that no brainer sorted, I asked them to change the 200 minutes worth of airtime a month, into data, so that I could at least use it. No was the standard answer! WTF, I paid for it, why can't I use it as I see fit? So the next option was to transfer it to my son, so he could use it......again, standard answer, NO! This is utter bull****!

Does anyone know if there's a cellular ombudsman, or something where I could seek relief? I am not swopping sim cards every time I want to use that airtime and I am not losing more than R1500,00 worth of airtime over some ridiculous rule!
