Alternative software for Mecer UPS

OK I installed viewpower on my linux PC..... odd problem though.

It ONLY picks up my UPS when I start it as root, the autostart always starts it as user...... how do I make it autostart as root? Custom startup script and bypassing autostart?

Uninstalled, reinstalled to /root instead of /home. Then on startup it complains that I don't have the required permissions.

Changed in ./etc/profile.d/StartUPS.sh
#!/bin/sh
pids=$(netstat -ln | grep 51099 | awk '{print $6}')
pids=${pids%/*}
if [ -z "$pids" ]; then
/root/ViewPower/StartMain &
fi

By adding sudo at the start of the the "/" line and the warning goes away but it still does not actually start.

Is there a good way to solve this?

Sovled it, this morning a new message popped up that a password must be used but cant.... why it did not show yesterday I dunno.

Created a new file in /etc/sudoers.d called UPS with the following
ALL ALL = NOPASSWD:/root/ViewPower/StartMain

Now for the first time ViewPower both runs at startup and actually picks up me UPS.

Ek sit in die selfde boot as jy. Ons moet maar gaan met ViewPower vir nou.
Moes nou die aand 1h actually weer ViewPower probeer (vorige installation het ek somehow verkeerder drive heeltemal remove of die COM USB interface van die UPS geblock of breek... since then many moons and Windows installations later... Darem my peep afgekry vir ander se part so laat, ek moes nog bietjie komper

this is pure, unadulterated bulldust

I was at work yesterday, replacing batteries in our UPSes (three RCT 3kVa UPSes).

So far so good.

When I went to the UPS monitor PC, I found to my dismay that the kacke has indeed hitteth the fan, and broke it.

Currently I have no way to monitor my UPSes. Will have to find a way soonest.

I am not impressed. The guys who've coded the viewpower software could've made a plan at least, and released their software to be able to run without flash.

I also had issues but then found that there's a HTML5 version of the View Power software

I installed it and seems to be working ok

Cool, thanks for the link.

Had to nuke the previous (flash) viewpower install completely, and install the HTML version.

So far it seems to be working.

Have lost UPS history :( ah well, as long as I can start over again, not the end of the world.

This new software is kak. Finish en klaar.

It can't even log beyond a month. I changed the settings so that it should be able to log for longer than a year or so.

Looking at alternatives.

Has anyone succeeded in getting a Raspberry Pi UPS monitoring app to replace ViewPower? I have been running the HTML5 version (i.e. no Flash) of ViewPower on a PC, and am happy with how it works, but I can't dedicate a PC to this 24x7. Otherwise, is the interface spec. available? I could take a stab at writing an app in Python. This is for a Mecer ME-3000-WPRU, but I'm guessing a lot of UPS brands use the same interface.

For anyone interested, I contacted the ViewPower tech support & asked them about a Linux ARM version, and they said they never heard of Mecer, and I should contact Mecer instead. Interesting that ViewPower comes with the Mecer, but they haven't heard of it...

I managed to get the latest ViewPower html software to work. I have it installed on my server, which is attached to ups 1.

Ups 2 (same make and type) is in another room running wi-fi there

I don't want to connect a computer there just to control ups 2

ViewPower software has a remote shutdown option

How can I connect ups 2 to the network so that I can remotely shut it down from my server when battery gets to a certain percentage?

OR

The Mecer 2000VA should work with the blazer_usb protocol under NUT Tools.
