What invasion by the Dutch? It actually lead to the invasion of the Dutch afterwards as JvR struck a deal for his halfway station with the Khoi, as long as they keep the Portuguese slavers at bay.

no somebody will build a Mcdonalds, or the land will just stand abandoned. Was looking at the construction site yesterday and wondering about this. The land has already been built on. The canal is dredged and they have started the bridge.
Will Amazon "deconstruct" what has been done so far?
It doesn't belong to them. It is privately owned land.If Amazon pulls out, the Goringhaicona leadership pretenders should be given the land to maintain in original condition at their own cost as they claim it is a sacred site. Let's see the three clowns put their hands in their pockets for their heritage.
Oops the arrival of the Dutch under JvRWhat invasion by the Dutch?
and now we are stuck with a giant unfinished building.... and a river that is even more wrecked.Due diligence was done. Amazon was made fully aware and in typical American fashion decided to steam roller ahead assuming they would get their way.

1st of all, is was the developer's own fault. Amazon looked at 10 prospective sites, and the Observatory one, wasnt one of them. The Obs one was then added later and the idea was to push for building, knowing there are complexities. It's actually greed from the developer side. Quite a few people from the Observatory side also objected to the additional development.
Many havent noticed there is also one in Mowbray, yet that's fallen a lot off the bus (the one near Rhodes High School).
The area is also a known flood plain, how River club got into there originally was also controversial. But oh well, that's past now. So it was pretty much cursed from the start.
But the developer got the land cheap, and wanted to force it through. Cape Town City only cares about profits, and they even passed a law saying they can run all building regulation (without your permission). So if your neighbour wants to triple story their house and it looks into yours, as long as the city gave permission, you have no recourse.
So yip, the whole idea was a very forced building project and should never have happened. Or it should have.....elsewhere.
Who told you this, and which civil engineer told you that the area is controversial?
Yeah, losing a bunch of new and future jobs is is big win!It will be a win for decolonisation![]()
They will change their mind when they are promised big royalties.
I think there is going to be even more of a fight about this. Was looking at the construction site yesterday and wondering about this. The land has already been built on. The canal is dredged and they have started the bridge.

Besides storm water management, It must also add to CPT water supply for every new connection made to the water system. This project will add a significant amount of new water required. The CPT damns are not looking great, all development should be halted until the water supply system has been expanded to adequately provide for the population and new developments. And fvck Amazon, they just want a lanie site for their concrete block, they have lots of other options to office their slaves. It doesn't belong to them. It is privately owned land.
Why anyone else had to be involved in the development is the real issue for me. The only thing the city should have been involved with, is to make sure that the development has adequate water management so it doesn't add additional water to the river during rainy season. Things like requiring a certain percentage of rain water storage.
That is the only justifiable interference with private property because it causes uncontrollable issues later on with storm water.
The ancestors will provide.Yeah, losing a bunch of new and future jobs is is big win!
There are actual EIA that say why its a bad idea. If you live in the area then its obvious.Who told you this, and which civil engineer told you that the area is controversial?
