Amazon Kindle for SA

Interesting to see that other devices have page numbers. I'm now quite used to the "Locations" on the Kindle - seems to make sense (seeing page numbers change if you change the text size). I am glad about the percentage tracker though ;)

It is good in a way for me - with real books I have this obsession to keep checking the page numbers to make sure I'm on the right page after turning over:o.

there is only Kindle! everything else is an illusion :)

Ah, you brain-washed Amazon zombies... Looks like they got you solidly trapped in their cage of deception and with each and every new ebook you buy you get a few extra bars added till you can't escape... EVER! :D

Must say mis the satisfaction of having a thick book with a airline ticket near the end of it after a trip...

its funny u say that.

I really didnt read much in the 30yrs ive been on this planet. I'll read magazines, and I'll read lots on the Net, but NEVER fiction.

I have this thing about paper. When i hold it, or turn it with my fingers it makes me all irritated and i get goosebumps. its like when someone scratches their nails on a blackboard? Thats how i feel touching the paper most books are printed with.

So the Kindle for me opened up a WHOLE NEW world. I mean i'm busy reading James Patterson now, I didnt even know who he was a month ago! I didnt realise non-factual stories/books were so cool.

And yes Crusader,i'm an Amazon junkie now. Where do you live? We'll come over and "help" you join us... *evil grin*

So my wife agreed to buy me a Kindle for Christmas. Bought it last night and shipped this morning.

THEN my mom phoned - she's worried that my dad has also bought me one. So I hacked into his e-mail account (Same password all these years) and discovered that yes, he did indeed buy me one, as well as one for himself, for my brother and my mom.

Very excited!

:D

if anyone else is planning an order in jhb pls let me know. i didnt order a case for mine and now i want one but its pointless paying R200 to ship a case, so I wanna piggy-back of someone elses order and pay towards shipping.

You can have 5 kindles on one account and share books... plan it carefully ! You can also move the kindle from one account to another without much hassle....

No thanks guys. I'm perfectly happy with my Opus. I enjoy the freedom it provides without being tied to Amazon. ePub works great for me. Sony is going ePub on 11 Dec too. Now I just need to finish my 90 treebooks so I can start on my 400+ ebooks.

Sure....

You can link 5 kindle devices on one account so if any one of the devices purchase a book it will appear as archived items and you can retreive it from any of the devices to read.

If you order a book on the web it will give you a choiche as to which device you want to send it, but afterwards you can send it to any device or download it for a specific device to copy using USB.

If you have setup your account for US store you will be charged for sending it to your device.

There is a option called wispersync which you need to turn off if you intend reading the same books so the progress in that book is only stored on the kindle not on the account and each device can be on a different page in the same book.

The notes can still be synced and checked on all the devices.

Hope that is the info you where looking for ?

So I would take the Kindles, open a US account, link all of them, turn of WhisperSync and then download books via USB?

US Account - meaning from behind a proxy, but still with my SA credit card?

No need for a proxy, you can use a SA credit card but supply a US based address on your "One Click" option. It will not affect any other orders from Amazon and because nothing is really sent to the address it works 100%.

This will allow you to browse the US store which has more books and yes you will save $ 1.99 if you use the USB to copy it to a device.

When you download a book it encodes it so you will unfortionatly need to download it for each device.

I haven't been charged the $1.99 when buying from the device but that will only be for the first device.

Seems like the Kindle joy is spreading - everyone's getting a Kindle for Christmas. Awesome!! :D
