Amazon South Africa's disappointing launch year

Used them twice, both times very good service and super fast delivery, much faster than Takealot
 
Their pricing is insane. I wanted quick delivery of some security camera junction boxes. They had, but the local security store also had at literally 1/10th of the price. Takealot had as well, but 3 days to deliver.

Yeah, I'm not wild about amazon.

How late is late seeing as its been less than 3 weeks so assuming your weber wasn't for a one off it should be a minor inconvenience. Did you try to call them because my experience has been that they''ve been on the ball delivering within a few days from order at the latest.
 
If you are going to have standards, make them equal, don't bring them out when it suits you....

Well I bought beyblade x from them on Tuesday, ordered before I left for work, they delivered on the same day at about 13h00, for a R1 delivery fee:

Must say we use them a lot more than Takealot these days. They also had way better Black Friday specials than Takealot.
Their delivery is also much better than Takealot.
 
Amazon is slowly ramping up. They have some great deals and their delivery is pretty fast. Have ordered quite a bit from them recently and the orders arrived faster than those from Takealot. The free shipping they have without any min order limit is great. Things sold by Amazon directly is the best option as the 3rd party sellers on there are also taking chances like on Takealot.

I've spotted a few Amazon Basic items being introduced in the last month so hopefully they will expand the selection.
 
Used them often this year. Had great service and always been free delivery.
Also not managed to deliver the wrong item unlike Takealot.
 
I stumbled upon a great special on a Samsung phone I wanted on Amazon. They're good by me.
 
Only had two orders with them so far, by and large because I tend to forget they are a thing locally now.

Both cases they were cheaper on these specific items and then delivery was also super quick.

Been happy with the service so far, I just tend to forget it's an option.
 
I have another 4 orders on the way. 2 to the Courier Guy collection depot for tomorrow and 2 to a Pargo locker at a Sasol for Monday collection.

If they keep this free delivery with no minimum, even if only to a collection locker or TCG counter, I will continue to grab every special/deal I can.
 
This is no different than other markets. Amazon always matches the local market. Part of the problem I hear is that suppliers already have their products housed by Takealot. Selling on two platforms would double their fees but not offer them any benefit or increase their sales as they're essentially competing against themselves.

What would be a game changer is if they also offered free or reduced shipping on US orders like in some other countries.

I don't like Amazon for the same reasons as the OP - consumers are part of the Amazon problem. Do I still buy Nestle products. Yeah. Don't like it but not much choice. At least with Amazon the villian is clearly labelled with a smile.

I don't get it though. The practices people always make a stand against are quite common but then people buy from those same retailers. If someone really wants to take a stand against such practices they should buy from the local retailer and pay a premium but they usually don't and go for Takealot which does the same because it's cheaper. That's where the hypocrisy usually comes in.
 
I've used them quite a bit lately. Undercutting Takealot in price and often free delivery, sorry to say, I go where my wallet takes me.

Same. It would make a huge difference if you can use your ebucks there. Currently I mostly buy from Takealot and OneDayOnly because of ebucks. Have to spend those ebucks somehow.
