- Fact. We have a total of 37 000 farm owners in South Africa
- Fact. We have around 28 million or so black South Africans living in poverty.
Will the land of 37 000 farmers uplift 28 million people? No, not even close.
Will those living in cities want to mass migrate back to rural areas to eek out an existence as subsistence farmers? No
We might start with farmland, then unoccupied areas around the cities, but very quickly we will realize this did not even put a dent in our poverty numbers.
Not even mentioning that an empty piece of land has no electricity, water, sewerage etc. Usually this costs millions to lay down, and is only funded by things like transfer duties and municipal levies. 80% of the municipalities are already broke, and presumably the new inhabitants will be too poor to pay for any of the above so the land will just sit empty with a few shacks on it and nothing will change in terms of financial well-being for those people.
Once we go down the route of saying, you are black you are owed something, and you are white and whatever you have is somehow 'stolen' then there is no going back. Empty land and farmland is not going to solve anything. And once the general population believes their only way out of poverty is to seize assets, then where to next? Businesses? Office parks? Residential areas in cities?
I agree with Max in his article. Its as if people in general aren't thinking rationally or projecting into the future at all. There is this enormous gap between land expropriation and addressing poverty which the EWC loons cannot fill, but yet just want to continue with anyways and the consequences be damned.
You can see the train wreck coming in slow motion. What a disaster this is going to be!
