So am in my 2nd year of Comp Sci Degree. Have decided that I want to go the analyst way. I would like to know which is the roadmap to becoming one. Most books prescribe going from programmer and working through the ranks - focussing more on modelling techniques such as UML and methodologies such as OO.

What do seasoned analysts say? I can program in a few disciplines but am not particularly interested in becoming a programmer as such. I see myself as more of problem-solver in a broader scope than a programmer.

Any views are welcome and appreciated. My experience covers desk-top support , telecomms and currently help-desk. By the time i complete my degree (in 2 years) i would like to already have some experience in this field.

You're looking a two very different jobs there analyst programmer vs. business analyst... one very technical and the other more business oriented

If you want to be a business analyst, do some financial courses as well. Economics, Accounts that sort of thing.

It you want to be an analyst programmer, then you're going to start off as a programmer and get promoted to analyst or designer, you don't just jump straight into an anayslt job.
