Android app bargains thread.

I know what they used to cost, I'm asking if they're going to be permanently free. I've never seen a paid app go free temporarily.

As far as I know, once a app becomes free it can not go to paid on the store, they would have to resubmit the app or something along those lines.

Well the fact that there are free versions and paid versions tell you they gonna go back to paid.

See:
Where is my perry (Paid) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.disney.WMP
Where is my perry (free) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.disney.WMPLite

Nope, plenty of apps have been marked free for short periods before, and some apps that use to be free went paid.

Edit: It seams Park@82 was right, the app store rules changed in Version 3 that included a section about changing apps from free to paid. You can now only do this with in-app billing or re-uploading the application under a different name.

My bad.

I think the free thing may have been a glitch, all back to a dollar.
Damn, could have gotten temple run or something had I not switched my phone off during an interview.

I got Wreck-It-Ralph for free. Pretty crappy game. Wonder if I should have grabbed Puffle Launch... I'd already bought Brave, Perry and Water.

looks like it.

Update: Disney got in touch with us and clarified that the sale was actually caused by a technical glitch in the Google Play Store and not an actual promotion. The issue has since been rectified and the games are back at their $0.99 price tags. The official statement follows:

There was a technical glitch on Google Play this morning that triggered the apps to be marked as free. The issue was corrected immediately and the prices are now back to normal for all of these titles (0.99$).

Same here, not really worth the effort. Funny thing is that it still shows as "Purchased".

Well they can't exactly take it away from you. It's yours now. The outdated paid version of Doodle Jump can still be accessed from My Apps.

Has the Play Store been downloading at a snail's pace for the last month or so for anyone else? Driving me up the wall...

Mine has been slow since I can remember. Not that it bothers me much as I use the Web page to install apps and usually check up on most at night or much later.

At least I got Temple Run Brave with this Disney bug. The "Where's my" where both free on amazon at some stage so they did not bother me.

I thought the website just instructed the phone to commence downloading?

I used to download at 200-400KB/s. At varsity I got over 1MB/s. On both connections it now starts each download at around 100KB/s and slows very quickly to 30KB/s. Utter BS. I am using version 4 of the store btw, but this was only updated yesterday.

That it does, but that is what I am pointing to, the fact that if I see something I like I select install and only check on the phone much later, when its installed so do not care about speed.

I see. Well that doesn't help me. All non-vital receivers in my phone are disabled by ROM Toolbox Pro, so remote downloading probably won't even work. I prefer doing everything on the phone in any case.

LoL at:

I guess they mean top not paid for paid apps. :p

Just noticed now. What a joke. There's a huge amount of value in being top ranked - I wonder if the developers with apps that should be there are complaining big time to Google.

I also wonder how many people scored those games for free...

The Play Store is getting goods speeds at varsity. I'll drop Afrihost a message from my Clientzone to enquire about fixing the slow speeds.

Due to being unable to support this application we feel it is unfair to continue to charge for it. We are now making it fully available for free. We will not be supporting this app further unless circumstances change.

Anyone notice there's a free and paid version of yesterday... Both almost 1gb sized. What's the difference?
