Android Auto (Google Assistant) vs Apple Carplay (Siri)

the best upgrade to apple carplay was when they allowed you to use google maps

Quick question: Can one listen to Youtube videos with Android Auto?
I don't believe so. The app has to be android auto compatible and I don't think YouTube is. But there are workarounds, apparently. Not that I've tested any.

Anyone here can recommend a best double din apple carplay/android auto head unit is SA?

Citroen admits smartphones trump its in-car infotainment

Citroen and sibling brands Peugeot, DS to move away from native user interface systems

Peugeot, Citroën and DS will devote far less time and effort working on the user interface systems of future models, focusing instead on the ease of integrating with smartphones.

“We’re not running 100 screens or bigger screens,” Citroën design boss Pierre Leclercq told Autocar. “You will use your phone to start the car and to do everything.

“That is the future – it has to be simple, but it has to be intuitive as well.”

Agreeing that many buyers have been frustrated by clunky native user interface systems, Leclercq said that future Citroëns will be far simpler.

“Five years ago, we could not assume everybody would have a smartphone,” he said. “Now, when we design cars, we assume that in a couple of years everybody will own a device like this. Then the question is: ‘Does it work with my car?’”

Funny that I abhor Google Maps on CarPlay.

In fact I do a bit of a hack and run Apple Maps on top of Waze.

That way I get the nice clean interface of Apple Maps that actually works (so long as Apple Maps has an accurate destination) and then I get speed and camera warnings and a second opinion from Waze.

Apple Maps has been more and more reliable.

Interesting. Natively Waze on Car Play doesn't have speed warnings.

Heh? I use it all the time.

You set the limits in the interface and it beeps when you go over them.

The icon also changes colour if you have it on the screen.

This is what mine looks like - no speed limits even though it's supposedly set to always show them.

Oh that is indeed odd then.

And your settings? Is this on?

Very interesting.

Only reason I could have thought there would be such a difference is if the car fed the information to the phone but that makes no sense at all.
On the phone it shows, on carplay it doesn't on mine

For clarity I don’t get the live speed indicated on Car Play.

I get the relevant speed zone shown with a coloured circle around it indicating whether in within speed or not.

Then when I go over as per the setting it gives an audible alert.

Oddly enough plugged phone in tonight driving to hospital and noticed Waze now not only has the speed limit showing but the full current speed indicator with the round dial showing hour relation to overspeeding.

Thought I took a screenshot but must have done it wrong.
