Android beats Apple, every time

The Way i like to look at the apple appstore and the Android market is like this. The app store is like China and the Android market is like America. The one is strict and tells you what to do and the other is just chaos. Now tell me who is doing better?

I see it the other way actually -
app store is america - money driven capitalist over priced
Market place - cheap community doing work for "free"

What the Apple haters always fail to see is that Apple is an innovator, whereas the rest of these "players" are just copycats.

Android wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for Apple's invention of the iPhone.

And the iPhone wouldn't exist if it hadn't been for Symbian or the early Siemens and Samsung mp3 phones? Android definitely didn't do it first, but neither did Apple.

I don't care if you're pro or anti Apple or Android. The fact remains the article was poorly written and pretty much a rant.
No, it was a very good article, a lot of people feel like that and with you being an apple fanboi it is understandable that you react this way.

One of the main problems developers have been facing developing apps for Android is the whole fragmentation issue. There are so many different Android phones, running on different versions of Android, at different screen resolutions, it’s practically impossible to test an app on every single Android phone available. This is where the iOS outshines Android – developers only need to test their apps with a small range of devices to know if everything works. This is a problem that needs to be resolved soon. Perhaps a version of Android that will bring all the devices together in the future?

The Android Market is full of rubbish apps and ‘apps’ that aren’t even real ‘apps’ at all (ringtones and wallpapers). And there have even been cases of malware being distributed on the Android Market, all thanks to Google’s “open store” concept. Sure it was a great idea- any developer could get an app to the masses out there but any developer means that even those with malicious intent could do the same. Apple has its fair share of “crap apps” as well, but at least the apps don’t ruin your device after you install them. Android needs some sort of way to filter apps, but it goes against their own “open” mantra, so it’s undecided how they’ll handle this

Disagree. Apple had invented MP3 players long, long before any cellphone company thought of adding them to their phones. It was a natural progression for Apple to then say, well, fine, let's add a phone to our MP3 player.

It was a crap article. Maybe people should look at why Apple is successful. They make faster, thinner devices, with better specs and better battery life! iOS is faster than any Android I've tried (on comparable hardware), it has way better apps, it's way easier to get apps, and the Retina display is just the icing on the cake. Android needs to step up.

The article sounds like sour grapes with a VERY biased tone.

There are things that both Apple and Android do very well. And there are things they do incredibly poorly.

There's no denying that despite the "restrictions" of the App Store, it's still incredibly successful. 10 Billion downloads in 2.5 years. Over in SA, Android users only have access to the Free apps. It's absolute chaos with LOADS of junk. App Store also has its moments though. Also, if you don't like Apple's restrictiveness, just blooming jailbreak the phone! Easy as pie, although you have to deal with the incredibly crappy Cydia store.

And let's not get started on OS updates. Because different OEMs use Android, THEY have to update every release with their own bloatware. And with Android OS updates coming out every few months, certain updates get skipped by OEMs, if they actually update. And if they do, it's not released immediately world wide. How's that better in any ways than iOS, that's available IMMEDIATELY across the globe to all iPhone users?

There are certain features of Android that's infinitely more useful than what Apple came up with. Apple made some real public and embarrasing blunders.

Gotta agree, neither Apple or Google has done anything new here, all they did was find a way of capitalizing on it.
What people dont seem to remember is that before the Iphone became so popular the Americans were using dumbphones (e.g Motorola RazR) and then Apple came with a brilliant marketing scheme of selling a super advanced smartphone (which in its infant stages could be compared to Nokia's s40 range). The current generation of Iphones leverages on advanced hardware but honestly it has not evolved that much when it comes to what it has to offer.

HTC Desire HD and you'll see what a real Android phone can do.

Google have pulled apps from the store before, and even from installed devices in some cases. And "rubbish apps" are really in the eye of the beholder. I have found some very worthwhile apps in the Android Market. Currently have more than a 100 installed. But yeah, since I don't know the Apple store's content, I'll take your word for it that most of them are useful.

I suppose you could make the first argument against PC's as well. They all differ (video cards, CPU's, sound cards, screen resolution, CPU speed, HDD size, etc), so consoles are better for developers. Somehow application developers cope with this.

Except they QUADRUPLED the resolution and have the highest resolution phone on the market. Yeah, not much evolution.

What the Apple fanboys always fail to see is that Apple isn't innovating, it's just implementing previous ideas in a nice package and marketing them well.
I don't hate them, I see competition as a good thing. I realise Android and others wouldn't be as good as they are without competition from Apple, but the same applies to Apple as well.

The iPhone didn't even allow 3rd party apps when it first launched, while Nokia and others had for years.

Not all "bloatware" is bad. The HTC Sense UI adds an awesome experience to an Android phone.

Uhm, The iPod came out in Q4 2001, same time Nokia made the 5510 music phone - so erm... no.

Better specs - don't make me laugh, no one can beat the specs of the Nokia N8 and there are many Android phones out there that beat the iPhones specs. Retina is good, but there are much better displays out there with the likes of Super AMOLED screens and even ClearBlack from Nokia.

Apple has always been over rated, over priced and over hyped.

Stop being a damn fanboy, I mentioned the advanced hardware but resolution has nothing to do with the phone "smart" capabilities.

Yeah, they quadrupled the resolution..... and then just upscale the same old apps, wow, what progress. How about allowing mass storage mode for people to put stuff on their phone as they please?

I could clearly see better and brighter colours from the Samsung Galaxy S over the iPhone 4, I didn't really notice this "Retina" thing. I had to squint and look closely before it came noticeable, so as impressive at the high resolution is, it makes little difference to everyday use.

True. And Samsung and Siemens had there mp3 phones out even earlier in the beginning of 2000.
