Android Useful Apps

I have an extensive cd collection which I copied to hardrive many moons ago. Probably in excess of around 800 cd's. How does an online streaming app assist me in that regard?

It assists you tremendously. Both Play Music and Apple Music allow uploads - 50k songs for the former and 100k for the latter. That's over 3000 albums with 50k songs. iTunes is great for ripping CDs so I'd recommend that regardless of where you upload to, and unless you're very confident about the existing rips you should do them again. You could then access your music library using either the Play Music or Apple Music app, and not worry about copying specific stuff.

Edit: And of course your music would then be secure and safe in the cloud.

Interesting. But would I then be compelled to use their ****ty apps? I use iTunes on pc and enjoy it immensely but play music doesn't excite me much.. Isn't there a monthly subscription fee for either of these services?

If you're already using iTunes then you just need to take out an Apple Music subscription and it will start automatically uploading all your stuff. The Apple Music app on Android isn't bad at all. Give it a go. It's 2018 man - you gotta get in the cloud. :p

And yeah, streaming isn't free. R60pm for one person, R90 family plan (up to 5 people) and a R30 student plan for Apple Music. I use Spotify, which doesn't allow uploading. Not a concern to me though. All music streaming services having free trials, so it won't cost you anything to get going on Apple Music.

Lol, just fired up Google Music on PC/Chrome. My mp3 collection sits at 468gb and around 60 000 files. Uploading....

Best stop it then as it can't fit your stuff. The allowance is 50k songs. Apple Music allows for 100k. And such a large upload will go much more smoothly through iTunes than your browser.

Just bear in mind that not all will need to be uploaded. Most music is available in the streaming services already. iTunes will automatically manage what needs to be uploaded and what doesn't, whereas Google can't, so all the more reason for Apple Music.

This.
But then you are stuck with a schitty app, so...
Not this.

Swift Installer - Themes & color engine

Swift Installer packages what's best with the Swift Substratum themes, and comes with its own installer and color engine! You can now install Swift Themes and tweak everything about it. The color choices are infinitive as the user can input their own favourite hex color code. The user can tweak both the background and the accent color, and a total of 186 apps are themed.

Swift installer supports the Samsung S8, S9 and other Samsung Oreo devices.

Notable features:

• Themes are included.
• Color engine is included with infinitive color choices.
• An easy to use update system. No more reinstall of all overlays for every update.
• Theme on the fly, no PC required.

I have a 100k limit on Play music aswell and it's got cloud match just like iTunes.

I like the Apple Music app on Android. The built-in lyrics are useful, the now playing screen is one of the better ones around, browsing the various sections of the service is easy enough etc. The only reason I use Spotify for my music is for the curated playlists - they're just so much better than Apple Music.

iTunes on Windows is laggy, but still usable. And the EQ and CD ripping capabilities sort of make up for its deficiencies.

That seems impossible. Google's own FAQ says 50k song allowance. And if I check the settings in my Play Music I see "Uploaded songs: 161 of 50,000" stated at the top.

Where do you see a 100k limit?

It'll get replaced by Youtube Music someday so if you can just stick it out.

Youtube Music needs a lot of work from what I've seen. Serious issues with audio quality, playlists, uploading etc.

If they can get it right it could be awesome. Youtube has so much music not found on streaming services.

If you own a Samsung S8 they upped it to 100k but I never had one. Have a Galaxy note 1 though so might be that but I see on reddit people also got upped without ever owning/using a Samsung phone. Best is for sand-man to check. Perhaps he also got lucky.

Yeah I've read they plan updates every fortnight to add user requests and then hopefully they do a wider rollout.

Still prefer Poweramp with its much better EQ.

Tried Poweramp many moons ago. Can't remember how it went but I'm using Viper4android for my EQ requirements. It's a standalone app but requires root. You can tweak many elements of the devices audio output.

Installed that Black audio app and I like the way it integrates album art in all the views, best I've seen it done like that in android and good price for the premuim app.

Yeah. Beautifully designed app. A lot of the aesthetics are customizable. You get 3 widgets too. 2 very basic and 1 more elaborate.
