annual increases

I find some of these "demanded" increases quite interesting considering :

The headline CPI (for all urban areas) annual inflation rate in May 2010 was 4,6%. This rate was 0,2 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 4,8% in April 2010. On average, prices increased by 0,2% between April 2010 and May 2010.

An obvious one that most people do is to switch jobs. I only benefited because I've become indispensable. Losing me would directly affect the company as I am one of only two people who are qualified to support, test, develop and integrate customised pieces of business-critical software. Qualifying another person would require at least a years worth of training and investment - something that they don't have the resources to do.

So yeah, basically either switch jobs or make yourself indispensable to the company :)

Gary? Is that you?

dude that is soooo wrong :(

Partially my fault though. Started a new job and they withheld increases and ended up being the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with (Half the staff left in a year and we went through two project managers in the same amount of time.). I then moved onto another company earning the same salary and I have to wait for a year to receive an increase.

we dont get annual increases, we get them when management feels we "deserve" them....my last increase was 8% almost 13 months ago....

Are your increases on basic salary or cost to company?

7% ctc.

2% in 2007 when I was working for a boss. Now I am self employed and my boss is a real cow... No holidays, except when there is no work like now during the WCS, and then the "no work- no pay " policy kicks in. I cannot even take sick leave if we are busy !! My bank manager obviously hate me.

According to Stats SA November 2009 - the average salary is around R 5000.00 /month.

So all you guys who are in secure permanent employment and are earning more - be grateful.

Why? The majority of us also went to university, which automatically places you in the top 10% academically, nationally. We are the cream of the crop when it comes to intelligence (In general) so why should we be grateful for earning more than someone who dropped out of school at grade 10? We should be earning more than R5000 pm, and by a good margin as well!

Oh, and 40% increase.

I also am one of the lucky ones that achieved a NHD in 1980 and have now 30 years experience in my chosen profession and that should be worth something. But because of earlier choices and my age, I am now"unemployable" and forced to be an entrepreneur. So I can see both sides of the coin. I know how difficult it is to get the jobs that pay well. I actually feel sorry for privately owned businesses. I think however that corporations, Government and big institutions are creaming it and could afford to pay well.

Agreed - and to add another: Supply and Demand. I've got a skillset that is immensely valuable to my company (high demand) (and a lot of companies) and not every Tom Dick and Harry can do what I can (low supply)- so they have to fork out $$$ to keep me...

Oh and I'm aiming for minimum 35% increase depending on the bonus structure increase...
