Another blow for 2010 !!

i actually dont mind pessimism backed up by the realities.

its just that so many statements are made without proof to back it up.
the stadium example worked early when stadia were starting construction.

they would say "we'll never be ready" and all i asked was which stadia and why?

if we believed what the media told us we would also believe that a giant plane crashing into the pentagon broke a few walls and windows.

I believe I'm being more realistic than positive.
Its fact that our transport systems even with the improvements might not cope, its also fact that 2 or 3 stadia face sustainbility issues. But the reality is also that many projects would not have seen the light of day without 2010.

2010 is a journey rather than a destination, challenges and obstacles should be embraced rather than used as some hope for failure. south africa is a terrible complicated country, so its no surprise that the road to 2010 would be no different.

Absolutely......this is how we progress, it is how other countries have progressed, 2010 is a stepping stone. Sure, it might be overly expensive, Sure, it might not be profitable......but it has forced the tech sector to wake up on HD, BROADBAND and INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIVITY. Who benifits....you do! (after everyone has taken their cut).

Be positive about 2010, you cant be worse off that you already are!

if there are countries/cities hosting mega-events to be profitable then they are in total denial or they are Los Angeles.

How do we put a price on the billions of infrastructure projects in planning for years if not decades which are finally going ahead? How does one place value on an R850m bus rapid system for cape town or tshwane..the first projects that resemble a foundation for some sort of public transport system..

anybody would be naive to believe they would happen before 2015 without this world cup.

I just hope this WC will be a success.... Attract more investment....

Lets hope all obsticles will be removed

2010 wont save RSA, its just an event. crime unemployment etc will still exist after 2010, but how much we benefit from the event itself is dependent on the success of the event.

The biggest concern I have is that many people are looking at 2010 as a "miracle cure" that might get these lazy politicians to get of their bums and actually do something for the people.
When this doesn't happen, It may well result in a major post 2010 migration out of SA.
