Any idea when the network will be 'usable' again?

Tower 60 (Northcliff) was down till 9:00 am and international bandwidth went downhill starting about 10:00am and eventually gave up the ghost completely about 10:48. I've got no international browsing whatsoever.

I've just noticed that the Sentech Bulletin Board is in fact a forum - but you can't post anything ! .... or am I missing something?

From the Sentech website:

Apology to Sentech Customers: 25 October 2005

Sentech sincerely apologises for the problems experienced on our network over the last couple of weeks. Our international connectivity is experiencing failures; our upstream partners are working around-the-clock to assist and resolve the problems. We are implementing additional links to alleviate the situation and hope to have stability across our international carriers soon.

Also just called their call-centre and they say International is down.

Maybe they are afraid that what we may complain about will open prospective users' eyes to their bad service!

Yeah if it weren't so sad it would be flipping hilarious.... that one cannot even get onto a site to do a speed test without a gateway time out:eek:

So who heard anything about the "compensation fairy"? About 2 months ago Ettiene at Nowire said that she would come our way.

Well, all I see is slow local, no international, and R849 per month taken off my account.

This should have been posted immediately - or do they only comment once their support staff can't handle the pressure.

Very poor Sentech, and very unprofessional. ( oh, and it doesn't help to blame your upstream providers - it's not the down-time that is most annoying, it's the lack of communication to your paying customers. )

Sssshhh - don't want to jinx this, but I just loaded a couple of international pages (very slow, but they loaded)....

Only prob now is that my mail has now started timing out big time...

[edit] Whatever they did managed to reset a couple of sessions I had open on various forums... Perhaps their proxy just needed a reboot!

Yeah have to agree. Is it beyond the realms of possibility that Sentech would ever reach within the depths of their pockets and their brains and think about sending bulk emails to all their customers as do the ISP's like mweb etc. It would be a nice touch to have Sentech come to us and service us as individuals instead of arrogantly expecting their customers to go to their bulletin board!

I made the decision to work from home today using my PC and??????.... maybe I should send them a bill for one day's worth of lost income.

Anothe wee little errant thought......... wonder if the sentech offices use only wireless broadband or is there a sneaky possibility that they use adsl fixed line??

lucky you!!

have been trying to download one email for the last two hours, keeps timing out, and can't yet get into any international sites... I know where they need the reBOOT !!!!!!!!!!!

Back On!

I just uploaded several international sites, and rather quick as well. Just hope this means the end of the problems and it does not start at eight again tomorrow.

Headend - don't touch Datapro uncapped adsl! It seriously sucks, trust me. Unless, that is, several international outages every single day, one or two 5hr outages every week, intermittent periods of huge packet loss and a helpdesk that must have been trained by the Sentech orcs appeals to you.

the problems we are experiencing are because we are now in the season of Spring. With all the additional leaves on trees, the signal has to negotiate a trickier path to get to your modem. Essentially, having to work its way round these leaves has doubled the distance it needs to travel and thus is now much slower. (hey at least its more inventive than the crap that they keep telling us!)
