Aoc

For those who want to read some book-ish things about conan this seems to be best

The complete chronicles of Conan: Centenary edition (Hardcover)

.

Just picked up a copy, was trying not to but the MMO bug bit agian, I will install and give you first impressions. From what I hear I will heave around 500zillion hours to wait before it's done installing, why is this? Why not put it on 3 DVD's or 4 and do less unpacking?

The game feels very un-laggy with my 384 connection, but be prepared for a whole day's worth of patch downloading before you can start playing.

Yes, there's a monthly fee ($15), but first month is free when you buy the game. Also, no probs on my 3G connection. Usually it's not about the -speed- as much as the latency. You will have to check that out for yourself. Anything below 1000ms is generally good.

I'm about lvl 21 now, finally got out of the first start town. Don't let the first town let you down, the first 20 levels is basically a big tutorial.

After 4 hours after installing and patching i got my new Mage to lev 6.

I just started so dont have a real opinion about it, but it looks cool thus far and my toon has realy nice b00bies - lol

I got to play last night after all the patching, on my unshaped 384 connection, it was very responsive. Was immediately pulled into the game - the graphics are absolutely stunning and the gameworld incredibly detailed. There was obviously a team who put an enormous amount of love into this project. It seems big and very real, and generally the game feels darker and grittier than any MMO I have played so far. Kind of like a darker Oblivion. I have heard that on lower graphics settings it doesn't blow you away, but I had it on highest settings at 1280x1024, 2x AA 8x AF, and it never dipped below 30 FPS, normally at around 45 FPS.

Combat is great fun, still getting to grips with it, but it feels much more like you're actually fighting someone than 'normal', and kills are very satisfying.

So far, really enjoying it, and looking forward already to the end of today so I can get stuck back into it!

Server

Which server is everyone playing on?

There are a bunch of guys that formed a guild called Eclipse on the PVP server Wildsoul. Website: http://www.ageofconan.co.za/

I am trying to put together those folks who are not interested in PVP but would rather play on a PVE server.

The current chosen server is Ymir, because quite a few ex-Wildsoul players started out there.

So if you're interested in hooking up on a PVE server, please reply here or in this thread: http://www.ageofconan.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=104

My in-game character name on Ymir is Dalden

Megaton, you might have noticed me asking SA questions on Ymir over the weekend, but I started a new toon on Wildsoul last night. I've never done a pvp server, so I'm trying something new with the new game, hopefully not dragging team Eclipse down.

I had my reservations about this game when I started out over the weekend, but the more you play it, the better it gets IMHO. I also rolled a Barbarian this time around and I love him! The Bear Shammy can just not pull it off, you could bearly (no pun intended ;) ) take 2 mobs of same lvl as you (talking about lvl16/17 here), but with the Barbarian, on lvl6 I was able to take out a lvl9 guard easily on quest The Awakening I. I was suppose to sneak by them, but ended up just killing them! Then I hit lvl7 and took 2 at once. It rocks!
So my 1st opinion was incorrect about the game, but it comes down to the combination between play style and the toon you select and a little experience...once you get used to this game, you will enjoy it.

So far i'm enjoying it quite a bit. The combat system takes some getting use to it, but is alot of fun once you get it right.

I decided to actually place my abilites on my actionbar. Having loads of fun on my ranger atm :)

Got my Bear Shammy to lvl 20 so far. Yes, it's true this class is a b*itch up to lvl 17ish. Especially between lvl 10-15, there's just no way you can fight 2 mobs and you will die plenty with the low HP. I also almost gave up, but went to read the official forums and the BS seems to be known as a "late bloomer" class. So far i must say it seems to be true. I'm rocking right now, and in a group it's a sight indeed as all the healing/melee effects of the BS is AOE ...so while you're spamming some HoT for yourself you're actually healing the entire group...quite insane ;).

Also the BS definitely needs to be figured out, the skills you get is not very clear as to how you use them. Take that "Blood Flow" spell, when you read it, it sounds like a normal HoT ...but in fact it procs for additional melee damage everytime you cast it. The melee effect -stack- , so spamming the spell in fact can increase the effect up to 5times. Once you realise that stacking this thing 5x -at the start- [not when you need healing] , then things just start to drop mysteriously.

But yea, there's definitely a huge difference in play styles between the classes. I think alot of people are playing a "soldier" type class as it's definitely easier [i leveled a Dark Templar with much much less hassles than the BS] .

I'm just a fan of hybrid class that can heal and dps , and BS was it, or the Dark Templar. But i the Dark Templar wasn't as interesting up to where i played, felt like it was gonna be a Low DPS, Some Healing, High Defense class, where BS seems to be Low Defense, Good DPS, Good Healing ..and bringing the group buffs.

Thats cool :). It looks like there are quite a few people who want to do something on a PVE server so we're going to see how many we can get together on Ymir.

Just got home to lunch for a quick look in, and the new updates are another approx 80MB download... Looks like this game is going to get expensive... :p

how was wow in the beginning, also loads of patches every second day?

I will be interested in PVEing for a while as soon as I get Conan installed.

A question to anybody:

First off a little background, I was going to install Conan late on Sunday evening. I saw that the total installation would be about 700MB. I decided to cancel the installation cause I forgot to top up my bandwidth (End of the month and all).

So I decided to update today, I then noticed that the update is 1.1GB  in size. I know there was additional fixes done yesterday but 400MB extra.

Is that right?

Hi Stephen,

It looks like the patcher has multiple patch passes, I also thought at first the download was going to be smaller, but then it started a second pass and downloaded more stuff.

I think prepare yourself for about 1.5gb of patches from a fresh install (it might not be quite that much).

Thanks Megaton, maybe I should get some more bandwidth just in case.

Well, I installed yesterday and did all the patches (About 800MB) and then today a further approx 80MB. So I think in total at the moment it's about 900MB.

Started patching yesterday when I got the game... switched off the patcher around 10:30pm last night and fired it up again this morning. Still Patching..... WTF

turns out they shut down the patch server the same time as a normal server?? thats super retarded
