Apple has lost it's innovation

iPad could have done with one of the following additions:

usb port
memory slot
stronger cover [seriously]
HDMI out

Biggest drawback is that it's difficult to share content to/from the ipads. I dont want to plug my camera into my PC, upload to PC - then connect my ipad to PC to sync the pictures to the ipad.

Heaven forbid I want to play my holiday movies stored on the ipad on the tv...

It does support HDMI out to your TV. You just need to buy the cable (Also VGA out)
Even better, if you have an AppleTV, you can use AirPlay! No wires (Which is very cool for outputting iPad games to your TV as well)

These propriety ports are just making everything painful (even more so when you only have 1 of each - lose/break one and you're spending a day hunting for the right cable). Wasn't that the whole point of USB, to take away arbitrary ports?

I don't get why apple just don't allow USB or HDMI ports, it would make life easier for everyone.

First off, it's NOT called the iPad 3.

It's not the same size - it's thinner. Making the screen smaller would be fail.

The processor is like 5x faster - small tweak indeed.

The screen boasts THE BEST resolution of ANYTHING in class.

Want to talk about the camera and the bundled software, or should we stick to speaking troll?

+1 or should i add more

I was using the sub $50 price tag as a comparison to the Akash tablet from India. but yes you're right. Guys, all I'm trying to say is this - Apple is a massive corporate with money coming out of every possible orifice. They're a market leader, and looked up to all around the globe, from companies to communities. How about leveraging off this position to create something truly innovative and useful for those who can't afford a $500 tablet. Apple could do so much to empower schools, universities, small businesses etc in third world countries and struggling regions, yet they never care to innovate or assist in this space. Like most greedy corporates, they probably will say that they don't need to or see no point. And that's when you realise, Apple is just a greedy corporate...

There is already a company that target the lower end market...here I found you an add for them:

Probably because it has critical mass (remember the original dock connector was FireWire as USB wasn't fast enough at the time. And they kept the shape all the time).
Now switching would cause a massive headache for a lot of their users. e.g I don't own any USB->USB connectors. I have a couple of iPod / iPad connectors though. And a Dock -> VGA connector (For presentations to connect to the projector).
And a my music system has a iPod dock.
And adding extra ports alongside the existing connector would require additional space internally for the controllers

I just get the feeling that people forget Apple is a corporation trying to maximise it's bottom dollar. Just like EVERYBODY ELSE. Samsung can also blow the same amount of marketing, no? Apple doesn't do well because they have a cash pile of $100 Billion, they have a cash pile of $100 Billion because they do well. The fact is their user experience seems to match want people want or like. It seems they take a lot of flak simply because they are so successful.

I have no problem with corporates, it's how they get their money that irks me.

30% of all e-book sales go to Apple. That's extortion. I wonder what it is for music, movies etc.

30%. Its there global modal that they apply to all goods, thats why they applied it to eBooks as well.

Oh and Itunes is not there biggest income either so your argument is mute in that front

Sorry, here is a better graph as the BI one looks a bit skewed at the end

But you still get the idea.

I'm on the opposite side of the world, I have many usb/usb connectors and HDMI connectors but only 1 apple cable (ipad2) and having to go through a PC to get media off/on it is a pain. I would be better if I had apple everything, but I'm not inclined to go that way (only got the ipad over other tablets is because it has been the best by far). Oh well.

$100 Billion and MARKETING. I can spell it out for you if you want.

I'm just tired of hearing the word Apple all the time and how great they are. Like I said in my first post ... the wood for the trees.

<<<<beware the reverse troll>>>>>

I love Apple, they are the best, woohoo :D

@Raindude, if you don't like hearing the word Apple so much, then f me....what the heck are you doing here ? You are guaranteed to hear the word Apple a lot - you are on the Apple forum !!!!!

If you go to the Shinyanghongfu forum, then you will be in your element, you won't hear the word Apple used...now run along before you get too overwhelmed

In closing, those that can afford the new iPad, well they don't really need it. Those that do need it can't afford it. Capitalism and the American dream....

all you need is an exam pad. maybe a staedler 2H pencil too. beats the iPad hands down.

I totally understand your viewpoint. But it is a case of them making a decision which would provide the best experience, in their opinion, for a market segment. But that by definition would not make all people happy.
But the HDMI connector is pretty cheap. But the AppleTV and AirPlay is an even better option :-)

JStrike - in your opinion, is there anything that not super duper with the iPad?
Something perhaps just average about it - or something that annoys you?

The iPad? Sure.
I think it needs more RAM. Two many tabs in Safari causes page reloads.
I don't like the plastic back. It feels cheap.
iMessage on the iPad needs a way to authenticate with a phone number as well as an email. It causes a disjointed experience with the iPhone.

The first two I disagree with totally... hehe ;)

And if that's it - you must have wonderful iPad experience! No wonder you punt them!

I have an iPhone, iPod Nano 6th gen, iPad 2 - and yes, I am an Apple fangirl. I love their products, its easy on they eye, user friendly, and the new iPad is amazing and I will be getting that as well. Haters gonna Hate!

Seriously, the iPad 3? What a lame device. Practically the same form factor as the first generation of tablets, with little tweaks here and there. How about something truly innovative??? How about a sub $50 tablet with keyboard to totally overthrow the PC market (mostly) and at the same time be innovative in another market segment. The same old boring upgrades and predictable tweaks will soon fall out of favour. I know Apple will always have their loyal customer base, but surely a big corporate like this should be looking into growth in other markets to continue growing their business.

It also seems like Apple is one company that doesn't give a flying f*** about less fortunate people, and what their needs are. Tell me, why do we keep supporting Apple?

Totally agree.

Wow.... 4g support.... wow.... break through stuff man. LAME.
