You then go to a few others users that GASP at the thought of an 'i' product not working as well as the competitors ... and when you open your eyes, you notice how they follow the Church of Apple and buy into marketing and sales. You hear them chatting in the hall about buying the 'iPad 3' before anyone knows what it is.

Worst of all, you realise that the flaws and isuses with the iPad are MADE to be like that. Someone DECIDED to limit you in every way possible - it wasn't a mistake. And then you get sad :(

EDIT : Dramatic post aside, it's just a bit of anticlimax. I love my iPad - but it can be so much more

I'm sorry you haven't had the experience you wanted from it. But do try remember that many, many people enjoy the experience have have decided upon for us (Although sometimes it isn't perfect, on the whole it delivers that experience consistently).
And it's unfortunate you wasted money on it, but I have done the same on many products in my life. Some of them far more expensive than an iPad. You learn from it, and move on. I don't go around moaning about VW. I let people who have good experiences with them enjoy it and don't try crash their party. I just buy a different brand now

I have a LCD vs Plasma and two Xbox vs PS3 infraction that doesn't expire :P bwana issued two .. so I'm a little weary as he's an Apple user

That is so misleading it aint funny.

There where plenty of phones and tables that look like current tech before Apple's revelation, the author just did not include them, same as there is just as many funny looking tables and phones out today.

I will give you that there is a lot more today that look similar today than the past, you can call it coping Apple or you can say it a sign of the times, just like you can see the same in cars. Back in the 70's every car was boxed shaped and today we have rounded curves it doesn't mean people copied a brand of car, its just the way tech leads us when we discover things.

In cars it can be aerodynamics and in tablets it can be slimmer designs.

I noticed, I just find it funny how many people fall for that.

Industrial and Product Design is not just copy what someone else is doing, Its a full blow direction you can actually study for 3+ years and even go for a masters. It just urks me when people dumb down things to suite their arguments.

I guess it doesn't help that most of the people that did their masters are running Apple iMacs.

Like I mentioned, did you include into this the fact that captive touch screens only became a real viable choice in 2007. Remember there where problems with resistive hence the pens that was included and the need for buttons for when you wanted to do something fast and not pull out a pen.

It is not just a simple cut and dry that everyone copied apple, its more a case of everyone started using the same technology when it became possible, that technology made designs slant in a certain direction.

You see the same with cars that looks similar to others of the same decade, hell even TV's and Monitors.

Nope, never recall any iPhone being sold with a pen and that's the point. It wasn't about the specs or the functionality, it was about the user interface, the same one that is still used today as the benchmark against which all touchscreen devices are measured.

I did not say iPhone came with resistive, just that before that time ie: 2006 and prior it was a restriction that had to be taken into account when you designed a phone.

You will see another design change take place when flexible OLED's become the norm, but using your lack of insight I guess we will then say everyone is coping whoever comes out with the 1st OLED phones.

It was because Apple, the iMac and Steve Jobs that it exploded in popularity. It would have died a horrible death had the iMac not had it

Obviously, what I'm saying is you had half a dozen cellphone manufacturers or more, who had been making cellphones for 10 years or more, who had to include a stylus and a tactile keyboard with their touchscreen devices cause they couldn't crack it. Apple cracked it, that's the point!!

Over priced and under performing, even against the incredibly modest 2G, I thank God Apple didn't copy LG!!

Development of the iPhone began in 2005.

The first iPhone was unveiled by Steve Jobs, then CEO of Apple, on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007.
