Apple has started testing iPhones with USB-C ports

Apple Inc. is testing future iPhone models that replace the current Lightning charging port with the more prevalent USB-C connector, according to people with knowledge of the situation, a move that could help the company conform with looming European regulations.

In addition to testing models with a USB-C port in recent months, Apple is working on an adapter that would let future iPhones work with accessories designed for the current Lightning connector, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.

It's long overdue with their phones producing pro-res video and raw photos.
 
I may have more than 40 data and charging cables from all the phones, tablets, gps, hdds, and other gadgets I've had over the years.

One cable for everything would be awesome.

No, the real challenge has always been for them to willingly relinquish all the money they make from the lightning plug. Selling it to the public will be easy after that.

Hopefully they are aware that they've been using USB-C on their laptops and iirc some iPads for a while now.

It works perfectly fine with a decent port. My PS4 controllers have no issue whatsoever.

The problem was that phone manufacturers very rarely put the right amount of support on the port itself.
 
Apple will align to what is best for their consumers and in line with legislation. And when they do do it, it will be the best implementation of the technology yet.

What is best for their consumers? How much alcohol do you mix in with your iCool-aid?

The ONLY reason they are doing it is the coming EU regulations.

Possibly, but there’s no way you can prove that. There’s equal evidence to the contrary.
