Surprisingly or not, it is cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Tab (at R7/$ exchange, adding shipping and Vat it comes out at ~R7000 for the 64GB+3G), I'm not even comparing it to the low end ones, but the 64GB top range. Silly Samsung!

Nope, you still need to have a pc to get stuff onto your ipad.
So still not a standalone device.

Except next Friday tens of thousands of people will have physical working actual second generation iPads in their hands and 15 million others will be updating to the second major dot release of software for their "old" iPads.
How many of these super-duper "droids" can people actually get their hands on?
Seems like that >90% market share of the iPad is telling. BTW these "droids", they're gonna be MUUUCCCHHH cheaper than the iPad right - sorta like the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. And you're definitely going to be able to get the software updates for them? And there'll be no problems getting the thousands of apps available for them to actually run, right?
I hear there's a special on at Incredible Corruption - you can go and stock up on USB flash drives to expand on your storage.
How come no-one seems excited that there's a chance they can get iPad 2 and iPhone 4 on Neotel now that they support CDMA EV-DO Rev. A?
“While others have been scrambling to copy the first generation iPad, we’re launching iPad 2, which moves the bar far ahead of the competition and will likely cause them to go back to the drawing boards yet again.”

I thought this was a pretty laughable statement so I moseyed on over to apple's site to see what's what. After having a look through their list of new features that supposedly moves, not raises mind you, the bar, I'm struck by a recurring thought, sombodydunnit already, and dunnit betta.
This is a quote direct from apple's ipad 2 site;
"iOS 4.
The world’s most advanced mobile operating system.
iOS 4 is the operating system for iPad (along with iPhone and iPod touch). It lets you browse, read, and see everything just by touching the screen. It includes all the powerful, innovative, and fun built-in apps you use every day, many times a day. And it’s the platform on which more than 65,000 other amazing apps have been created for iPad. It’s highly secure, stable, and responsive, and it’s made to work seamlessly with the iPad hardware. iOS 4 is the reason no other device has yet come close to iPad."
Apple have won the battle because they had a head start, they have a fantastic brand with millions of loyal (read ignorant) fans and great marketing. Suggesting that their OS is the reason is a ridiculous. Their operating system is great, if you like simple, unthinking rocks. Pretty looking rocks, sure. And 3rd party aps helped, ok. But really, who are they trying to kid. Oh... right.
What's also interesting is that apple hadn't released anything on iOS4 prior to launch, aside from, hey safari is quicker (i.e. nothing to make you go wow, awesome) whereas honeycomb features were announced up the whaazoo and there was plenty of awesome. Makes me think they're holding back to allow their early adopting, trendy vintage clothes wearing sycophants the opportunity to make an impulse buy before they know what they've done.
Yeah ok, that's a bit harsh. They will love it regardless.
Me, I'll be waiting another year or so to see what Android comes up with.
Not so sure about Steve's statement that everyone is scrambling to copy the first iPad - some of the Android tablets were better right of the bat. And is still better than even the iPad 2.
