Well this just opens the door to grey imports.
I'll get mine when in Aussie in May.

"New Ipad 2 available in South Africa (Only at selected stores)."

"Get you Apple Ipad 2 from only R4999 on 21 January 2012."

LOL!!!

ipad2 will be sold by the end of the month or v.early next mnt on bidorbuy

just checked international apple store sites, prices have dropped to under 3000 rand for the ipad, so now our 4000+ pricing no longer seem so reasonable...

“While others have been scrambling to copy the first generation iPad, we’re launching iPad 2, which moves the bar far ahead of the competition and will likely cause them to go back to the drawing boards yet again.”

I thought this was a pretty laughable statement so I moseyed on over to apple's site to see what's what. After having a look through their list of new features that supposedly moves, not raises mind you, the bar, I'm struck by a recurring thought, sombodydunnit already, and dunnit betta.

This is a quote direct from apple's ipad 2 site;

"iOS 4.
The world’s most advanced mobile operating system.

iOS 4 is the operating system for iPad (along with iPhone and iPod touch). It lets you browse, read, and see everything just by touching the screen. It includes all the powerful, innovative, and fun built-in apps you use every day, many times a day. And it’s the platform on which more than 65,000 other amazing apps have been created for iPad. It’s highly secure, stable, and responsive, and it’s made to work seamlessly with the iPad hardware. iOS 4 is the reason no other device has yet come close to iPad."

Apple have won the battle because they had a head start, they have a fantastic brand with millions of loyal (read ignorant) fans and great marketing. Suggesting that their OS is the reason is a ridiculous. Their operating system is great, if you like simple, unthinking rocks. Pretty looking rocks, sure. And 3rd party aps helped, ok. But really, who are they trying to kid. Oh... right. :)

What's also interesting is that apple hadn't released anything on iOS4 prior to launch, aside from, hey safari is quicker (i.e. nothing to make you go wow, awesome) whereas honeycomb features were announced up the whaazoo and there was plenty of awesome. Makes me think they're holding back to allow their early adopting, trendy vintage clothes wearing sycophants the opportunity to make an impulse buy before they know what they've done.

Yeah ok, that's a bit harsh. They will love it regardless.

Well for once it seems the androids are coming out with the better features first. Nothing about this pad beats the already announced android tablets.

It seems the turning point has been reached. It was inevitable considering you have one manufacturer going up against many.

Still, apple laid the groundwork so kudos to them.

On another note, every time that arrogant schmuck Jobs opens his mouth he spews bile about his competitors. I just have to resist getting on a plane, going to his house and and and... /censored/

Sent from my apple stomping, berry crushing droid! Samsung Galaxy S.

Wow Apple are arrogant ...

I just wish to see them fail at something - but with the iSheep around, I know that everything with an 'i' preceding will sell in the millions

Isn't content more important than hardware? That's what I feel about tablets in general. Get your work done on laptops/desktop and web browsing, email, ebooks on tablet.
