Apple iPad 4 with better LTE support

Um.

What?

How long was the 3rd generation out for?!

So it was not the iPad mini as many were speculating?

Is there a list of improvements anywhere ? Is it only the LTE and CPU ?
New lightning dock if you consider that an improvement.

That A6X CPU is quite a significant upgrade.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm pretty pissed about that. I find my "iPad 3" lacking a few kw in the processing department. This A6X is sure to rectify that.

What's going on? Apple at panic stations?

Huh? The updated iPad was a bit of a surprise but that wasn't all Apple announced today... You've missed the 13" retina display MBP, the new iMac, the 8" iPad and the updated Mac Mini. All in all, Apple have updated just about their entire range this year and, as we're on a tech forum, how could that possibly be a bad thing?

Although it has little improvement I don't think we might see a revised ipad in March next year instead a 1 ipad event around this time next year.
But the ipad 3 needed to support more LTE bands and lightning connector that was the priority but A6x uncalled for as I think the A5x was fine for now.

Ockie just won himself the 3rd generation iPad, which is considered old now...:D

I'm pissed off with this upgrade too...

Well it kinda sucks when you pay top dollar for a perceived PREMIUM product and it becomes outdated within 6 months.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that the reason for this quick release is the lack of LTE in the current device. When the new Win8 and Android tablets come out with LTE the current iPad will look a bit "ancient" because of it and reviewers might suddenly say that some other tablet is the new king. So to stop that you release the same tablet with LTE and more processing power (through in that propriety connector for extra lulz).

EDIT: honestly, I wish they had rather release a "New iPad+". Same spec as the current one but 5mm thicker with closer to 20 hours battery life.
