Apple iPad 4 with better LTE support

It would be sucky if Apple stopped updating the iPad 3's software now that the new one is released. But I don't think they would - Apple has arguably supported older devices way better than some other manufacturers. My guess is that you'd get two more years of software updates (that's pretty much what the iPad 1 got).

Also, think about the poor early adopter of the iPad - flew mine in from Hong Kong back in 2010. Could only use it two years and then Apple said it won't support IOS 6 for it... :'( Only, fine, I can still use it and it still works great and does anything I want it to do, but Apple totally screw me over by bringing out new products and new software.

Totally agree with this.

At least with other OEM's we know way in advance that something is coming, none of this secret ****. We moved into the information age, and info is king in my books.

Example Microsoft surface made headlines almost 6 months ago or look at the current news of the up and coming Samsung 10" note.

TL;DR Keep your customers informed.

If you bought an ipad 3 in the last 30 days Apple will upgrade you to the ipad 4 free of charge.

With every other company, rumours are released, launches are discussed etc, Apple just randomly releases a brand new product out of the blue. If Apple were at all ethical we would have had at least some whiff that there was a possibility of a new launch. At least then a bunch of us could have said "you know what, I'll wait and see what launches in a week" and if the it was only an ipad mini, cool, I could have made an informed decision. Instead they spring this on you out of the blue and with no warning.

You may think what you want but I am entitled to be grumpy so don't start insulting me by saying I lack logic and implying I don't have the basic ability of comprehension. You just come off as arrogant.

When Apple have an event where the rumour mill has guessed every new product they launch they get flamed and when they surprise us they get flamed... Who'da thought. That said, they are pretty good with their product cycles and this would be only the second real deviation from those cycles I've seen since I got assimilated into the Borg that is Apple in '07. I got a 13" MacBook Air a couple of months ago and the rumours of the 13" Pro with Retina Display were already out there... Thing is, the Air is a fantastic machine, as is your new iPad... There is no reason, for me at least, to replace it right now just 'cos the new machine ships today. I'm pretty sure if you check around this forum, there are people out there who are still happy with their second gen, even first gen iPads. You won't have less fun with it or be less productive with it just 'cos there is a newer one... You just won't.
I don't buy the "whiff that there was a possibility of a new launch" bit either... Everyone knew there was going to be a new iPad, whether it was the mini or not, I would have waited if I was in the market just to make sure the one I was looking at was right for me.
Finally, a question... Do you know someone in or traveling to the States in the next couple of weeks? If it's a real, real issue for you, there are Apple stores there that will exchange your iPad for a new one, provided it was bought in the last 30 days. I don't see Core doing that here but the option exists if you choose to take it and you can't say that about many of the tech companies out there.

Moving the ipad's annual release date to before the holidays makes sense and will make many gift receivers very happy going forward. This transition was bound to happen at some point. The only way to avoid the early update would have been to do it six month late rather than early which would have left a gap of 18 month between ipad 3 and 4 (Oct 2013). I prefer their choice tbh - they needed to get all their devices onto the new connector sooner rather than later.

Look I am happy about the release date and specs... All I wanted was some kind of rumor that an iPad 4 was inbound. Nothing more, nothing less.

All Apple has to do to avoid my issues is A. Stick to a release cycle or B. announce at least 3 months in advance that something is coming. Thats it, dont need specs or screenshots just a simple tweet saying "Its coming"

It doesn't matter which way you look at it. People bought their iPad 3's just a few months ago & now the iPad 4th gen is announced? Apple are milking their ever so loyal fans for everything they have. A decent spec update or new device every 12 months is fine but just 6 months after being told the device they just bought won't work with some SA LTE networks.

Its really not that difficult to see. ;)

I really don't see people ditching the third gen iPad for the latest one. Personally, I dont see anything wrong with the spec bump.
 
I would be quite peed if I had bought my iPad 3 a week ago, but I've had mine for about 4 months now. I wouldn't have waited for the new one, so I don't really care too much. It would be nice if Apple gave at least a months heads up that they were releasing a new one.

They don't do it purposefully cos they want people to sell a 4 or 6 month old device to upgrade so they can make more money.

But yeah, I agree.

Unrealistic, what they do instead is let anyone who purchased one from them return it within 30 days.
