Apple unveils iPhone 16e

So for us people that like smaller phones, what options are there now that the SE is not small anymore?

I would say get it in hand and feel it out first.

My iPhone 16 is very light and not unwieldy at all, you are looking at half a centimetre wider in actual body and less than a centimetre taller which is also made somewhat invisible for lack of the home button.

You'll likely find it's just fine.

There's really not a lot between the SE and normal size phones. Now if you were coming off a Mini that would be a different story but I find those actually too small to hold and always feels like I would drop it.

And I'm not some boertjie with massive hands.

Problem is the current SE is already a bit bigger than I liked. So every bit bigger is a problem. I don't walk around with my phone in my hand, its always in the pocket. If the flip phones screens lasted longer that would be ideal.

Then on this thread in the news section we have to listen to Dolby's stupid arguments.
You mean my question?

Just say you have no idea / can't anwer it / makes no sense ... it really isn't tough?
You're allowed to say you don't know or that something doesn't make sense?

I'm sure you're not going to get in trouble with someone at HO ...

It's a budget phone at a not so budget price. I suspect the strategy is to get people holding onto iPhone 13 and below to upgrade as its been trending for a while that people are taking longer time between phones to upgrade. Hence the '16' and it would be interesting to see if they continue this trend every year and just bump the older one down to a cheaper price.

Where most concessions are understandable, not including magsafe is an own goal especially if you still including wireless charging (you'll die before completing a charge at 7.5w). They also unknowingly made the capture control button useless by including the action button and equipping it with the apple intelligence shortcut. I still maintain replacing the action button in the normal models with the capture control button is the right implementation going forward.

Aaah I see where you are coming from.

Happy enough with my 16 in the pocket and inside a Rhinoshield bumper case, but yeah with a proper thick case on there it could be an issue.

Weight would be more the concern for carrying in pocket.

Yeah the camera button is utterly useless and the most overplayed thing they've done in ages. Literally never use it and when I remember it's there then it's for the AI stuff not the camera bits.

Wireless charging is no issue, did that for ages on my 11 no problem, but once you've gone Magsafe it's really a step backwards to have to line it up nicely and only be able to use it upright or on a flat surface. Mine is "docked" horizontally and hence why I use the standby mode and works great.

We just cannot win.
In the Se 2025 thread we are spared that Dolby cannot post there, but Twitter queen spams the thread so nobody is interested in discussing there anymore.

It's kinda "cute" how I live rent-free in your head eh

On the flip side it is disappointing that the day your school had the class "reading with comprehension" you decided to bunk it. It really is a useful skill, actually an essential skill to have.

If you only look at 128GB storage sure, but even that's outrageous in and of itself.

I would literally just buy an iPhone 14 then if I was willing to spend that money.
Extra battery life of the 16e will be worth the extra. Also 1000 charges vs 500. No brainer.

All his spam even crashing Safari https://streamable.com/o4lulq @Dolby you’ll love it another **** Apple app.

what do you mean by that?
According to Apple, while "iPhone 14 models and earlier are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 500 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions," the "iPhone 15 models are designed to retain 80 percent of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions."

Unimpressed - I'll wait for the 17e...

My 14 is already at 87% health after 300 charges so it does track Apple's estimates. I assume this phone will have the newer battery tech.
Clever little tactic Apple employs, let's put a battery "health" indicators on our phones so people obsess even more.

Much better than Android phone cocking out and having to root your phone and pay for an app to see that. Or battery capacity declining fast within a year and being left in the dark as in my case.
