The Apple Watch finally became official this week during an Apple event that was one of the most elaborate yet. One big question that remained afterward, however, was battery life.

Recently, Apple spokesman Nat Kerris revealed that the Watch currently lasts "about a day right now."

Although there's certainly room for improvement, that's also about the same standard for other advanced wearables like those running Android Wear. Initial reports put the Motorola Moto 360 also at around a day, but the Samsung Gear Live and LG G Watch and the G Watch R are expected to do two days on a charge.

Either way, Apple's Watch won't be coming to market until February, and given that the Cupertino company still hasn't released official battery life figures for the device, it's likely they'll be working to improve it until then.

This is stupid. Smart watches have been out for a while and battery life has always been an issue. Finally, eventually, just before everybody stops caring Apple jumps on the bandwagon and some chop realises the battery only lasts a day. The result - a news article about it.

I mean WTF. We know the batteries are a problem. Who in their right mind thought it would last longer?

The Samsung Gear lasts about 2 days... So that's double.

Works both ways though. All I read is about Nfc nowadays and how they have it so right and perfect etc

My gear 2 lasts almost 4 days

Some watches have the movement charging mechanism, wonder if that would make the battery last longer slightly.

Lol, no man. :p

A traditional wristwatch lasts for YEARS on a normal battery, hence kinetic charging is sufficient. These "smart" watches just barely make it through the day with heavy use.

Just another reason all of these watches are way too gimmicky. Spend the night clubbing, decide to stay the night at a friend, get laid...you wake up with a dead piece of tech. Basically it's a toy for business hours that doesn't do a whole lot.

I find the whole thing a little bewildering tbh...bulky, extra device that needs charging & bluetooth pairing....nee vk.

Surely any Apple Watch owner would place the watch on its stand every night, which would wirelessly charge it. I don't see the fuss.

Having said that, I'd rather spend the money on a TW Steel chronograph.

Point 1 - thought that was pretty obvious from the keynote.
Point 2 - really too early to tell

Regarding point 1. Anyone who thought that these devices would do anything smart other than telling time and collecting data without being tethered needs a kick in the head.

For this type of device to function independently it would need a sim card, gps etc etc and that would absolutely murder the battery.

The point is further in the article that just the points wrong with it

He's saying that point 1 and 2 effects all the Smartwatches, and goes on to quote what the tech guys said about the Samsung when it was launched - they hated it.

"The Galaxy Gear is bulky and useless. It needs a phone to be even moderately useful,"

"Despite all the hype surrounding the Galaxy Gear today, there's one glaring problem with it. It only works with one Samsung phone, the soon-to-be-released Galaxy Note III"

"The fact that it's only compatible with the Galaxy Note 3 at launch ... you have a recipe for disappointment"

"If you purchase a Galaxy Gear and don't have a compatible device, congratulations — you just bought yourself a brick."

While even though the Apple has the same issues, it's revolutionary and evolutionary and visionary and changes the world and creates world peace, sorta thing
