AGS surely aren't cheap

If it is under R400 and under 500g in weight then it is only R195 to bring in from New York, or Hong Kong, or Slough in the UK (amongst other addresses).

If you have an FNB account and you add the first 6 digits of your card and SHIP (******SHIP) as a promo code when you check out, you get R72 off this amount, which makes their service as cheap as a local courier sending something from CPT to JHB.

I asked Aramex about the varying shipping discount, here is their reply:

"The offer is ongoing, as long as the FNB Customer enters the Promo Code. Our backend applies $5 discount, but due to the fluctuating Exchange Rate, this amount does not equal to R75 sometimes. We have raised this with FNB on many occasions but they have not changed their marketing collateral, and it is something we are working on."

I ordered the Oneplus 5 during the launch event and it's been sitting at Aramex in Paris since the 23rd. I uploaded the invoice when they requested it but the status has been "On Hold" ever since. The wait is killing me D:

Not so long, seeing as the 23rd was Friday. Give it another day then start yelling.
Remember to make provision for the duty... Customs are gonna love you.

Ouch, yeah, you're probably right. I hope my current phone survives the wait. It knows it's being replaced and is starting to act out :p

So trying this out, and had a parcel arrive at my AGS address. Got an email so far asking for the commercial invoice.

I don't have any payment info stored on their site, so I assume they will let me know once it is in SA what the cost of shipping + duties is as a final amount and then I pay it in one go?

Yes, you will get a number of computer generated messages, including one to say that parcel has arrived, please pay. If over R400 there will probably be duty, if so, you will receive another email template with duty filled in.
It's ok to save your card details, just don't allow them to automatically debit your card each time you use their service.

I got my phone! Aramex received it in Paris on 23 June and I got it on 05 July at 8:30am. Everything went very smoothly and I'm very happy with Aramex. One thing I learned was make sure your payment is not set to automatic. I missed out on my R75 FNB discount because of that.
I ordered a pair of earphones from OneDayOnly on 22 June and received them on 04 July, so Aramex took the same amount of time.

I did get hammered by customs. Got charged R2000 for an R8000 phone.
If I could do it all over again I'd probably wait for Amazon to get stock and order it through them. Before the Oneplus 5 came out I was looking at the 3T. Added it to cart and checked the estimated import fees and they weren't nearly as bad. Not sure how that works.

I know this isn't a Oneplus 5 thread... but so far the phone is fantastic.

Great to hear you got your beautiful phone. I knew that Customs would nail you, hence the warning. You can't even appeal the amount charged.. Been there, tried that.
As to the phones through Amazon, they will have their frequencies changed for the USA market. As far as I understand it, the Chinese phones have more network bands, allowing our phones in SA more channels to choose from.

Must say, its good to see AGS listened to feedback given to them. The tracking is now at least much clearer when something is going through customs clearance, or doing a midway stop in Dubai. I ordered a bunch of items this year, all below R500 ending in R0 customs fees, but the last one was a high value item and the tracking shows clearly what is happening.

Code:

Also, fairly quick, I should have it by Friday which is 8 days in total which is very decent considering the very affordable price.

My USA parcel was also routed through Dubai. I wonder if that is because the Aramex head office is based in Dubai, and most major cities in South Africa get both Emirates and Qatar flights daily?

Hi guys

I need some help. So I registered on AGS. The first few parcels were delivered without any problems within a few days. So they decide to change their Hong Kong address - I was informed on 7 June but my parcel was posted on 4 June. It was delivered on 19 June but it was undelivered. So I contact AGS & speak to Olivia - she requests the tracking number & a copy of my ID. She tells me that they will collect the parcel from the Hong Kong Post Office. A few days later I follow up - she tells me that they are waiting for the collection card. I ask how they will get it since the address on the parcel is the old one - she tells me that they still have security at the old address. So I wait a few days then contact her again - she then tells me that their address change will not affect the delivery of my parcel unless my address has changed. Whatever that means.

I wait a few more days then follow up again - she tells me that they are waiting for the collection card from the Post Office. I ask her how they will get it since I asked her this question 2 weeks before. She does not reply.

So I contact Hong Kong Post and this is their response:
Dear Customer,

Item no.: REMOVED

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the above mentioned item.

The item is being kept at Yeung Uk Road Post Office (Shop 15, 1/F, Indihome, 138 Yeung Uk Road, Tsuen Wan) awaiting collection with notification card and identification document. Notification card has been sent to the addressee.

If you have not received the notification card yet, please kindly provide the address proof (e.g. the water bill or bank statement, the name and address should be as the same as the one printed on item cover) as a substitution of the card.

Regarding the change in the delivery information, please inform the sender to lodge an enquiry at the office of posting in Singapore. Upon receipt of the above information and document from overseas administration, we will notify the concerned office to follow the matter.

Please note that any items remaining unclaimed during the retention period (3 Jul 2017) will be returned to the sender in the origin, as per the Universal Postal Regulation. Please ensure that the item will be collected at the soonest convenience.

If you require any further information, please feel free to call us at 2921 2211.

Today Katleho who is apparently a senior tells me that it would be better for the parcel to be sent back to the sender & I should ask them to resend it to the new address. Their Hong Kong office claims that they have not received the collection card so they cannot collect the parcel.

I decided to contact the seller which was a nightmare because of the language barrier. All in all, he tells me that he will not be able to resend the parcel even he gets it back because of the costs. You would think that a big courier company would make provisions for their address change to ensure that it does not affect the customer.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

so AGS move office and didnt put in a contingency plan for parcels on route - what a bunch of clowns!!
Anyhow if the item gets returned to sender, could you not pay them the shipping fee to reship, or is it not worth that cost?

TBH you would expect AGS to make an effort to sort this out, at least offer to pay the re-shipping costs.

They are definitely a bunch of clowns. I thought I was the only one but I saw a similar complaint on Hellopeter. They are not willing to help - infact they are just giving me the run around. I called Katleho yesterday but she was apparently out of the office. Vusi said he would ask her to call me but she didn't. I have been trying to tell the seller that I am willing to pay for the items to be reshipped but he does not understand me at all. He keeps asking if I'm not in Hong Kong & tells me that I should just go & collect the parcel from the Post Office. What a nightmare.

The parcel I ordered has been on hold in France for 2 weeks now eventhough I uploaded the invoice. I've only shipped from the US or UK which take a week to deliver to my house, so does it usually take this long to ship from France?

Two weeks is a bit excessive. Email them through the website or contact Olivia directly with your shipment details.
