I don't think customs this side ever exclude shipping costs. They just look at the total at the bottom and go with that.
If you include shipping cost from seller to AGS depot... SA customs will charge you for the entire amount. This is unfair as this postage is in another country and should not concern them.

It's always been the case, they look at the total and that's it.

They just don't spend the time analyzing it for the proper breakdown. Rather give the government too much than too little.

Not nearly as good as the offers/codes where you get free signup. But I guess its some advertisement for them.

What is the advantage of signing up for lifetime membership? Sorry for asking as I am very new to this and cannot find the info on their site.

Once you have your lifetime membership you are given a list of Aramex Global Shopper (AGS) addresses worldwide. When ordering from Ebay or Amazon etc, you give them the nearest AGS address to ship your order to.
AGS receive your parcel and let you know the weight so that you can calculate shipping. Once shipped to JHB they email you a payment link.
If you keep your order below 500 g and below R400 you are looking at a total cost, delivered to your door, of R195. If above R400, customs duty is applied.

Customs are being annoying lately. I am now required to provide them with the reasons as to why a store has given me a $5 coupon either by official letter from store or a letter from me explaining the coupon. Grrr

Thank you. So I order something from Amazon which doesn't ship to SA, I enter the nearest AGS address. My question now is, only once it reaches the AGS office will i know what the weight, courier costs and estimated customs duty will be?
PS. I did my 1st order from Amazon recently with the items shipping to SA. On the Amazon website it showed me the shipping and duties before I bought it. Will this be possible once I register for an AGS account?

Amazon usually give you a weight estimate on their page. Add a bit for packing and you will know how much Aramex Global Shopper will charge you for postage.
Look back in this thread for estimated courier costs - or check under the FAQ tab on the Aramex Global Shopper webpage. It's not easy to find, but it's there somewhere.

So Amazon tells me my order has shipped for new york and should arrive tomorrow. I am popping my cherry so don't really know what's gonna happen from here -

Aramex will mail me to pay fee based on weight? (should not be more than 500g so R195)
I read earlier that need to upload amazon invoice to AGS earlier in the thread?
Will customs still charge me VAT on the items? (Bluetooth earphone and apple watch cover - total 38$)

Thank you for the help!

Wait for Aramex Global Shopper to email you. The email will show weight that you can calculate on their webpage. Anything under R400 has no customs duty.
Amazon will have most likely have charged you New York tax.

I found that AGS is super slow with the emails this week and last week. Item arrives, its shows on my account on the website, but the email only arrived 3-4 days later. At least I uploaded my invoices so long.
